
Durg (Chhattisgarh) – A three-and-a-half-year-old girl studying in a nursery class was beaten by the principal of Mother Teresa English Medium School, Ila Evan Colvin, for saying “Radhe Radhe” in the classroom. The principal struck the girl on her wrist and sealed her mouth with tape. After the girl’s father, Praveen Yadav, filed a complaint at the Nandani Nagar Police Station, the Police arrested Principal Colvin.
After news of the assault came out, Hindu organizations staged protests outside the school. Several pro-Hindu groups, including Bajrang Dal, took part in the demonstrations. Due to the protests, the school was temporarily shut down.
The incident took place on Wednesday morning in Mother Teresa English Medium School in Bagdumar village under Nandini Police station limits, as per the reports. The child studies in nursery in the school. School principal Ila Evan Colvin was arrested under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 115(2) and 299 as well as section 75 of Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act for causing hurt, outraging religious feelings, cruelty to children, and other offences.
