Israel reminds us of its world famous Intelligence Agency Mossad ! Israel is a country well known for its fully equipped military, making military training compulsory to every citizen, their zeal of searching in the whole world German army officers tormenting Jews in the 2nd World War and bringing them before the international court — Israel means a country associated with war and various stories in its connection ! Israel celebrated its independence day on 14th of May. Hence a report of that country is being published on that occasion.

1. Israel, taking a high jump in 60 years despite facing the dearth of water and food grains

The secret of Israel’s progress is that every citizen has connected his personal life with the country.

Israel’s struggle has the history of more than 2 thousand years; but they got independence only 60 to 62 years ago. To be precise, Israel owes its existence to 14.05.1948. Israel has taken a very high jump in these 60 years. Israel was always in the shadow of war. All the nations around it were hell bent upon destroying its very existence. It is quite remarkable to progress in such a way despite having dearth of water and food grains. It is definitely a thing to be emulated by other countries including Bharat.

2. Israel’s high jump in the direction of technical progress with the help of modern technology !

2 A. Water

2 A 1. Preparing drinking water from the sea water : Israel has found out the technology required for treating the salty and tasteless water of the sea. We had gone to see a giant project named White Water. This project is like a sugar factory.
We observed extraordinarily big machinery, a very big cylinder of mixing chemicals, very big water beds through which water passes continuously. Thereafter, that water is treated again by mixing chemicals necessary for drinking water. 10 million litres of water is prepared every day.

2 A 2. While undergoing the process of water treatment electricity is being created simultaneously, no need for spending extra money for getting electricity : We asked them how can a common man afford this expensive water undergoing such a tedious procedure. That time they informed us that while treating the water, electricity too is being created simultaneously using the same water. The whole project was running on the same electricity. There was no need of extra expenditure. Raw material means the sea water was feely available; besides while the water which remains useless for drinking while undergoing the treatment is being used for farming. So that is a  separate revenue for this factory.

2 A 3. Dirty water too being used for farming after purifying it : They have also made similar progress in processing dirty water. All unnecessary contents in the blackish, foul smelling water (water full of oil, grease, rubbish etc.) can be removed by technical process. Thereafter partly clean water is stored in the ground. Mineral complementing farming is then mixed in that water and that water is sold for farming. They are also supervised through machines. All these things are accomplished by machines. The pipes carrying electricity are underground. 75 % of the used water is reused. In the coming years they are trying to take it to 95 %. Research regarding that is going on in their laboratories.

2 B. Garbage

2 B 1. Raw material of garbage being processed through wind : Israel has done great revolution in the management of garbage. Various industries have their own big plants. All the garbage gets collected there. There are mountains of garbage around these industries. Later when raw material of the garbage comes, wind processing is done on it, means the garbage on the revolving panel comes in the way of the blast of the wind. The garbage that is light (Plastic, paper or bits of string etc.), flies and drops into a big barrel. Water processing is done on the remaining garbage. In that the dirt on the heavy material is washed away. After the dirt is removed, that rubbish is thrown away.

2 B 2. This rubbish is used to do landfills : This rubbish is used to do landfills. In Bharat we dig soil from one place creating a ditch there and use that soil to flatten some other ground. In Israel they use garbage as landfills. 75 % of the collected garbage is made available for landfills; means it is sold. That becomes the main source of income for the industry. Before the garbage is put to use it rots to such an extent that it turns almost into soil. Therefore this garbage is suitable for land.

One more new technique utilised by the industry is to make compost manure. When the rotten garbage has turned into soil, it is once again processed by mixing manure in it and then it is sold for farming.

2 B 3. The remaining garbage is recycled to make utility things from rubbish : Decorative items are made from the remaining garbage consisting of plastic bottles or empty bottles. They have made it a point not to discard any part of the garbage. Foam mattresses used for chairs are also made from garbage. You have to see it to believe it. This factory is open for visitors. The toys kept there for children are also made from throw-away things.

2 C. Farming

2 C 1. Farming through sprinklers : Farming in Israel is a subject for research. In Bharat we give lot of water to a farm. Nowadays no one can rely on regular supply of electricity. That is why some people have found the solution of keeping the switch of the pump on for the whole night and go to sleep. Hence when the current resumes, water literally flows away from the farm. Israel realised that they cannot afford such a waste of water. Therefore it found the solution in drip irrigation. The point is to use water as much as necessary. It is their technique not to waste a single drop of water.

2 C 2. Increasing production due to modern technology : The same technique is used to give water to any kind of cultivation. Various kinds of vegetables, green vegetables, fruits, grains are grown there. They have brought in most modern technology in agricultural operations like tilling, ploughing, sowing etc. and they have increased their production by using that technology. Most of their jobs are done through machines.

2 D. Technical progress

2 D 1. Making use of machines due to shortage in population : The population of Israel is just 70 lacs. Hence the manpower is less compare to jobs. But they have filled this shortage with machines. In a discussion at a Water Purifying Plant, we were told that such a vast plant was managed by merely 50 persons. Only 2 are on duty during the night time. They watch the screen and come to know what goes on in the plant. Any problem is solved immediately on computer. Among the 50, only 10 were engineers. That means once they set the proportion of the chemicals required for the water purification, their job was over. Thereafter they have to just supervise.

2 D 2. Road-cleaning through machines : Roads too are swept with machines. This job is done early morning by the vehicles. These vehicles also are driven by one person only.
