Tehelka shame: Tejpal leaves for Goa, arrest imminent

A non-bailable warrant was issued against Tehelka founder editor Tarun Tejpal on Wednesday as he failed to appear before the Goa Police, which had on Wednesday set a deadline to appear before it till Thursday 3 pm. Now his arrest is just a matter of time.

Meanwhile, Tejpal has written to the Goa Police saying that he will join the probe on Friday.

Addressing a press conference, State police DGP OP Mishra said, “We waited for his (Tejpal’s) appearance till the expiry of the deadline. Now the investigating officer will act as per law against him”

He also said that Tejpal’s request for the extension of the deadline till Saturday was rejected by the investigating officer.

Tehelka founder-editor Tarun Tejpal, accused of sexually assaulting his female employee, had earlier written a letter to Goa Police on Thursday and sought an extension till November 30 to appear before it.

“Tejpal wrote a letter to Goa police saying he will appear before it on Saturday afternoon,” Tejpal’s counsel Sandeep Kapur said.

In the letter, the Tehelka Editor said, “I am ready to cooperate with Goa police in investigation.”

His counsel said Tejpal will not move Supreme Court for any relief.

Meanwhile, Tejpal also withdrew his anticipatory bail plea in sexual assault case from Delhi High Court.

Earlier, the Goa police expected Tejpal to present himself before it, but later DGP Kishan Kumar said he has sought time on the ground that he got the police summons only on Thursday morning.

The DGP refused to answer a question whether the Goa Police would get a non-bailable warrant issued against him.

Tejpal, who failed to get any immediate relief on his anticipatory bail petition in the Delhi High Court, was on Wednesday summoned by the Goa police to appear before it in connection with the probe in the case.
