New Delhi: He converses with God while at the crease, and if Robin Uthappa’s recent form is an indication his prayers are being answered. "You can see me mumbling between deliveries" because "I converse with Him when I am at the crease," says the 21-year-old opening batsman who describes himself as a "spiritual person".
"Being religious has helped me gain serenity and peace", Uthappa said getting ready for the World Cup in the West Indies after an excellent record that has seen him score 255 runs at an average of nearly 37 and a remarkable strike rate of 114.34 in just 8 ODIs.
The Karnataka batsman said he had now matured as a player and was smart enough to come to terms with difficult situations. "I have the ability to adjust quickly to pitches and bowlers I have never faced before. It’s been the case with me whether I have toured Australia or England," he told PTI in an interview.
Uthappa, who forced his way into India’s World Cup squad with some blazing knocks, said although he was a naturally aggressive batsman certain situations could force him to be patient and more selective in his shots. "There are moments when you feel you can do anything and get away with it. At times, you have to be smart to come to terms with difficult conditions", he said.
