‘Gourakshan’ Movement : Enlightening views expressed by dignitaries in the third session
‘Gou-rakshan (protection of cows)’ amounts to ‘Dharma-rakshan (protection of Dharma)’
Shri. Chetan Janardan of HJS, while creating awareness amongst pro-Hindu activists towards movement of protection of cows that had gone off-track in one State, said, “When movement for protection of cows was undertaken, efforts were made to bring Muslims and Christians on the same platform to make them understand usefulness of cows irrespective of their religion. The movement for protection of cows is, however, movement for protection of Dharma and only Hindus can realise the importance of protection of cows. They also tried to give colour of secularism to our movement. When cows and cattle were being slaughtered in the State on large scale, this issue was ignored and problem of stray cows/ cattle was strongly presented. During one State-level movement, all organisations engaged in protection of cows were invited; but people from Organizers’ side were only given place on the stage which hurt other ‘Gou-premis (patrons of cows)’. The BJP Government in that State had not taken any stance towards the issue of cow-slaughter or done anything to take care of cows till then; but the agitators also said nothing against the improper stance of the Government. During this movement, the agitators did not propose any strong action for protection of cows. Many participants were trying to present ‘Hinduttva’ through the medium of secularism. In other States, therefore, when movement is undertaken for protection of cows, pro-Hindu activists should try to avoid such shortcomings.
