HJS lawfully opposes denigration of Sri Ganesh !

Thane (Maharashtra): An exhibition of paintings drawn by Pradip Mhapasekar was held in the art gallery of Thane Municipal Corporation in Kapurbawadi area. In some of the paintings of Lord Ganapati drawn by the artist, there was denigration of the Deity. When it came to the notice of members of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS), they tried to explain to him about denigration. Listening to it, Mhapasekar just turned the sides of the paintings. A complaint has also been lodged by HJS to prevent denigration of deities in such manner in future.

An exhition titled ‘No God No Peace’ was held between 1^st and 3^rd April in Municipal Art Gallery of paintings by Pradip Mhapasekar and Satish Khot. There were pictures of Lord Ganapati drawn in various shapes and figures. On learning about the same, Mrs. Dhanashree Kelashikar of HJS went to the venue along with some activities for enlightening the artists about denigration. Mhapasekar, however, asked her that what was wrong with the pictures and he was drawing such pictures for the past ten years. Mrs. Kelashikar told him that the students from the Arts College would follow his example and start drawing pictures like him and denigrate Deities. She advised him that it was wrong and he should remove those pictures. Mhapasekar promised to remove the pictures. Mr. Mukund Ghanekar of HJS also explained to him about denigration of Deities; therefore, Mhapasekar turned the sides of denigrating pictures. Mr. Gayadhar Barik of RSS was also present on the occasion.

On the following day when HJS activists noticed that the controversial pictures were not removed, they lodged a complaint with Kapurbawadi Police Station. A Police Sub-inspector (PSI) accompanied the activists to the venue of the exhibition but the exhibition was closed one hour before its scheduled time on that day. He assured the HJS activists of issuing a notice to the artists under clause 151of Indian Penal Code.
