Mazar replica displayed in Ganesh Visarjan procession by Taloda school

Hindu organisations warn of agitation if action is not taken against those who displayed the replica


Taloda (Nandurbar district), Maharashtra – During the Shri Ganesh idol immersion procession organised by Nemsushil Vidyalaya in Taloda, a replica of a mazar (Muslim shrine) was displayed and carried in the procession. The children involved were dressed in Muslim attire. The incident has hurt the sentiments of Hindus and devotees. The Hindu community and Hindu organisations strongly protested the incident and submitted a memorandum with various demands to the Taloda Tehsildar on 23 September. The Hindu organisations have warned of agitation if their demands are not fulfilled. 

Key points raised in the memorandum

  • According to Hindu scriptures, displaying graves, mazars or symbols associated with death during any auspicious occasion, worship of a Deity or religious ceremony is considered highly tamasic, inauspicious and prohibited.
  • During the procession, a scene depicting a replica of a mazar being erected and prayers being offered in front of it was presented. The children also danced directly in front of the Ganesh idol to a song addressed to Allah.
  • What is the purpose of displaying such mazars or graves during Ganeshotsav and pushing the new generation towards darkness?
  • What was intended to be achieved by bringing the distorted shadow of a tomb associated with a dead body before the auspicious Shri Ganesh idol? By linking such an imaginary scene with a historical and sacred event like the coronation of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, history and tradition are being distorted. When there is no record of any such ritual in historical accounts or bakhars from that period, why was this display presented during Ganeshotsav?  

Hindu organisations demand a public apology from school management

Hindu organisations strongly stated that no institution or individual has the right to tamper with the fundamental spiritual and religious sanctity of Hindu festivals. Hindu society is tolerant, but this tolerance should not be mistaken for helplessness. Hindus cannot remain silent when the procession of their revered Deity is used to display a distorted depiction involving death and a mazar.

The organisations have demanded that the school management immediately issue a public clarification and display a board at a prominent location in Taloda, publicly apologising for hurting Hindu religious sentiments. They have also demanded that the administration take strict precautions to ensure that such objectionable displays are not repeated during religious processions in the future.

The Hindu organisations have warned that if the school management fails to issue a public apology within the stipulated period, they will launch a strong agitation through constitutional and legal means.
