Udupi: Protest mars Tipu Jayanti celebration – Nearly 50 BJP members arrested

Udupi : Tipu Jayanti celebration near DC’s office here on Friday November 10 was marred by protest by the district BJP.

As a preventive measure, the police arrested near 50 leaders and members of the BJP.

The police led by SP Sanjeev Patil deployed heavy security at the venue, with the SP himself inspecting and reviewing the security arrangements.

Despite the heavy deployment, scores of BJP workers and leaders arrived at the spot and protested, raising slogans against the government for celebrating Tipu Sultan’s birth anniversary.

The police intervened immediately and arrested nearly 50 protestors.

Among those arrested were BJP leaders Raghupati Bhat, Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde, Prabhakar Poojary, Shreesha Nayak, Shyamala Sunder and Sandhya Ramesh.

District in-charge minister Pramod Madhwaraj’s absence at the programme was conspicuous and raised a few eyebrows. In his stead, Kaup MLA Vinay Kumar Sorake inaugurated the programme.

  1. It can happen only in India . Can you imagine Israel celebrating Hitler’s birthday. It also shows lack of unity amongst Hindus.All Hindus should get united as soon as possible otherwise this country will be taken over Abrahic groups.
