Hartal in Thrissur Over Guruvayur Parthasarathy Temple Takeover

Thiruvananthapuram : As Malabar Devaswom Board took over Guruvayur Parthasarathy temple, the Hindu Aikya Vedi has called for a hartal in Thrissur on Wednesday to protest against the move. The Malabar Devaswom Board took over Guruvayur Parthasarathy temple in the wee hours of Tuesday following an order issued by the Kerala High Court.

In agitation, the Hindu Aikya Vedi will observe hartal in Thrissur till 6 pm on Wednesday. Various Hindu outfits earlier opposed the move of Malabar Devaswom Board taking over the Guruvayur Parthasarathy Temple. Officials of the board led by executive officer T. C. Biju and manager P. Sreekumar entered the temple under heavy police protection in the wee hours of Tuesday.

In September, a tense situation prevailed at Guruvayur Parthasarathy temple after devotees protested and prevented an official of Malabar Devaswom Board to take charge at the shrine.  The board had sought the legal permission for taking over the temple from the Kerala High Court citing the alleged corruption in its governing committee.
