Satara (Maharashtra): The distributor of ‘Tata Indicom’ for the district, Shrikant Shah put up digital boards at various places in the town, during ‘Ganeshotsava’, denigrating Sri Ganesha. The members of Hindu Janajagrtui Samiti (HJS) tried to explain to Mr. Shah about the denigration of Sri Ganesha caused due to such  advertisement; but he did not agree that there was any kind of mockery made of the Deity; but finally, owing to the insistence of HJS members, he removed the boards.

On the boards displayed by Shah, there was a picture of Sri Ganesha talking over a cell phone. This was observed by Mr. Vinayak Kulkarni of HJS. He promptly went to Mr. Shah with few members of HJS. They explained to Mr. Shah about the denigration of Sri Ganesha and the need to respect our objects of worship etc. Mr. Shah said, “I am a member of Andha-shraddha Nirmulan Samiti’. I have prepared such innovative picture which I have displayed in the area owned by me. On what basis, are you telling me to remove these boards? I would not have removed these boards; but you will come down to destruction of the boards and therefore, I am removing them.” Mrs. Shah said, “I am not wearing a ‘Mangal-sutra’ or have not applied ‘kumkum’ on forehead but I am a Hindu. You are attacking our freedom of expression.” (Is there anything like innovative ideas or freedom of expression about the worshipped things in case of followers of other religions? Why should then only Hindus behave in this manner? There are many subjects to enjoy the freedom of expression ! – Editor SP)

HJS members tried to make him understand, “The drives undertaken by HJS so far have been carried out in lawful manner. We never indulge in destructive activities now or will not even in future. But we will definitely lodge a complaint with the police of hurting our religious sentiments. Nobody has the right to hurt religious sentiments of Hindus.” With such firm stance of the HJS members, Shah had to withdraw the boards. Mr. Dhananjay Chavan, advocate and Mr. Vaibhav Kshirsagar and other members of HJS were present on the occasion.
