Margashirsha Krushna Ekadashi, Kaliyug Varsha 5111

The portion of History related to Chhatrapati Shivaraya increased from 5 lines to 5 pages in the text book in Goa !

Hindus Congratulate to HJS for its successful agitation for teaching the right history of our great national leaders to students ! Success to HJS efforts against anti-History text books !

Hindus should express gratitude at the feet of God for this success and rather than being complacent, keep on their lawful fight till the history eulogizing the invaders is removed from the text books !

Hindus must carry on the campaign till the anti-History curriculum is totally changed !

History curriculum as set by the ‘National Committee for Educational Research and Training (NCERT)’ is taught to students from different States. In History text book set for Standard VII, the brilliant history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has been given in just 4 lines and that too without his picture whereas history of Mughal invasions responsible for destruction of Indian culture has been narrated on 60 pages. Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) undertook a drive all over the two States of Maharashtra and Goa, to foil this ploy and prevent insult of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The fight put up by HJS has borne fruits after 8 months and the portion narrating history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has been increased from 5 lines to 5 pages. Additional 9 pages supplement has been sent to all schools in the State of Goa for their teachers. HJS will be following the matter to see that the additional supplements are received by all students studying in Standard VII. The above information was given by Mr. Jayesh Thali, the coordinator of HJS for Goa State.

Parents should be beware that distorted history is being taught to the students by NCERT

The subject of History in a student’s life is such that it is of no use to him in his future professional career like engineering or medical discipline. Even then, this subject is compulsory because it would motivate them throughout their life and they would try to repeat the glorious past. Jijau mata narrated stories of Bhagawan Sriram and Sreekrushna to Chhatrapati Shivaraya which helped to inspire him and establish Hindvi Swaraj by defeating powerful Mughals. It is our misfortune that today, the Central Government is branding Sriram and Sreekrushna as imaginary characters so there won’t be any opportunity in future to get inspired by them; but along with this, it has been observed that NCERT has made a provision through the history curriculum set by it that the future generations would have no ideals before them. NCERT had earlier described revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Khudiram Bose etc. as terrorists and had carried out changes in the curriculum after prolonged agitations. Now NCERT is trying to eliminate historical facts related to national great leaders like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj eulogizing the history of Mughal and British invasions. A common man can, therefore, rightly feel that the Committee is working as the agents of the invaders.  In the meantime, there was news about Pakistan teaching anti-India history in schools; is it that NCERT has been inspired by Pakistan to do such job?

Goa Government has taken action to change the wrong text books at the end of October i.e. when the academic year will be coming to an end soon and has taken 8 months to complete the job that could have been completed within just one day !

Feedbacks from the agitators on the decision to increase the portion of history related to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj from 5 lines to 5 pages

The above decision is to keep the mouths of agitators shut only temporarily ! – Col. (Retd.) Dattaram Sawant, Divya jagruti Trust

The decision taken by the Government to increase the portion related to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is only to temporarily keep the agitators’ mouth shut. There are, however, many pages devoted to the history of Mughal invaders and History of the Marathas i.e. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Sambhaji Raje, Peshave etc. is comparatively very less. When a student studying in college was asked about the ‘Peshavas’, it was noticed that he had no knowledge about them. Students have no knowledge about the Peshavas who conquered the land beyond ‘Atak’ as also about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, because of whom we are able to live as Hindus. It was, therefore, necessary for the Government to devote more than half the book to the history of the Marathas.

The distorted history was changed by the Government only because ‘Sanatan Prabhat’ raised the issue ! – Mr. Ramesh Naik, Marathi Rajyabhasha Prashthapan Samiti

The Government taught distorted history to the students but ‘Dainik Sanatan Prabhat’ raised this issue in their periodicals due to which such distorted history has been changed. The true history is being hidden only to obtain Muslim votes and Muslims are misguided with such untrue history. Every nation has, in fact, its own history and the people learn from the past about how to live in the present or future. Nowadays, if history of Chhatrapati slaying Afzal Khan is told, the sentiments of minorities are hurt. Hindus accept the history that Sambhaji Raje was oppressed and killed but why the minorities do not accept the fact of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj slaying Afzal Khan.  The nation is on the verge of second partition and the Government is solely responsible for the same. I want to warn the Government !

I am happy that although late, the Government has changed the curriculum in the text book ! – Prof. Prajal Sakhardande, a historian

I am happy that at least now, the Government has carried out changes in the curriculum. I have helped to prepare the edition of the book including the revised curriculum; but the Education Board has not yet officially informed me about the same. The Board is not very serious about the text book of History and there are always many mistakes in the book. Parents have to hold agitations to correct the mistakes. Books are made available to the students quite late. The draft of the book should be got verified from some expert committee. The history books should be based on the true facts as it helps to create better future for the children.

The patriots should not go overboard with such small decision of the Government ! – Prof. Dilip Betakikar

The patriots need not go overboard for the Government’s decision to increase the portion of history related to Chhatrapati Shivaraya from 5 lines to 5 pages since there are still many mistakes and distortion of the facts in the history text book. The decision of the Government is a minor matter. It is necessary that the parents and students come forward to stop such distortion; else it is not possible to have expected changes in the books.

The text books set by NCERT should be withdrawn from the curriculum ! – Prof. Anil Samant

The decision of the Government to increase the portion of history related to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the text books of VII standard  from 5 lines to 5 pages is welcome; but considering the complete history published in the curriculum, it is a very minor change. The mockery of Indian culture is still carried out in the text books. I am not happy with the Government’s decision. There is a need to teach Indian culture to students. Therefore, it is required to withdraw NCERT text books.

Text books based on Indian values should be included in the curriculum ! – Mr. Vallabh Kelkar, ‘Shiksha Bachao Abhiyan

The ‘Shiksha Bachao Abhiyan’ is making every effort to withdraw the text books from the curriculum and not just carry out changes in the curriculum of VII standard. The present text books have no standard as there is no mention of freedom fight or Lokmanya Tilak or Swatantryaveer Savarkar etc. There is, therefore, need to withdraw the present text books and include new text books based on Indian Values in the curriculum.

The decision of the Government is welcome ! – Mr. Upendra Gaokar, Goa State chief, Shiv Sena

The decision of the Government to enhance the portion of history related to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj from 5 lines to 5 pages in text books set for VII standard is welcome as this will help students to know more about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. But the students need to be immediately informed about the changes.

Thanks to all who participated in the successful drive ! – Mr. Jayesh Thali, HJS

All those devout Hindus, pro-Hindu organisations, parents, teachers and students deserve thanks for participating in the drive to carry out changes in the history degrading Chhatrapati Shivaraya. It is good that the Government carried out changes in two lessons. We demand that the Government pays immediate attention to our other demands also. Rather than giving little information about the glorious history of Chhatrapati, the students should be told about the whole life history of Chhatrapati.

The Goa Education Board should once again study the history from the viewpoint of teaching right history to students even from 5th to 10th standard. The oath removed from all text books should be included once again. In every text book, the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ should be included. In every text book, 30% history of Goa should be published and the introduction by Mr. L. Fernandes, former President of Goa Education Board should be deleted. The above demands have already been made by HJS, parents and students with the Government and these demands should be fulfilled.
