Issue of Marathi film ‘Masta chaalalay aamach’ making mockery of Saints and religious leaders

Hindus should offer gratitude at the feet of Sri Krushna for this success !

Mumbai: There is disgraceful mockery of Saints and religious leaders in the Marathi film ‘Masta chaalalay aamach’ produced by ‘ZEE Talkies’ and distributed by ‘Shemaroo Entertainment’. Mr. Avinash Kharshikar, its executive producer and actor rendered unconditional apology to the delegation of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) and agreed to give a letter to that effect. (The objects/ seats of worship of Hindus have become a matter of entertainment in films, plays, advertisements, TV programs etc. Lack of ‘Dharma-shikshan’, ‘’Dharmacharan’ and ‘Dharmabhiman’ has created such situation. All Hindus should follow the ideal of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, which is continuously raising voice and creating awareness against the mockery of their worshipped objects/ seats, and become active only then such denigrations can be curbed ! – Editor SP)

Hindu Saints and religious leaders have been ridiculed quite disgracefully in the film ‘Masta chaalalay aamach’. Mrs. Varsha Thakar of HJS had registered protest against the film with Mr. Avinash Kharshikar and he had called HJS members for discussions. A meeting was held at ‘Marathi Sahitya Sangh’ in Mumbai between him and a delegation of HJS comprising of its members viz. Mrs. Varsha Thakar, Mr. Satish Sonar and Mr. Satish Kocharekar. Mr. Kharshikar was explained about denigration and how religious sentiments of Hindus have been hurt so also how denigration of Deities and Saints leads to causing harm to Dharma. He appreciated the activities undertaken by HJS after listening to the explanation and said, “I am also against making mockery of Hindu Deities. It was not our intention to denigrate Deities through the incidents of this film. All these incidents are with reference to fake ‘Babas’ and have been filmed to create hunour; but we have never thought of the perspective that you have explained today. I have a request for you. There is a ‘Film Regulatory Committee’ and no picture goes to the Film Censor Board without registering with this Committee. If you prepare a code on behalf of HJS and give it to me; I will send it to that Committee. We can organize a meeting with them also so that such incidents are avoided in future. If the scenes are to be deleted from the film, it will take at least 8 days and by that time, the shows of the film will be stopped.” Mr. Kharshikar was then made to understand that till the film was shown, HJS drive against the film will go on, in lawful manner.

Mumbai: Few years back, some shows of a anti-Hindu Marathi play titled ‘Ek Daav Bhutaachaa’ were staged. Based on this play, ‘ZEE Talkies’ has presented a film produced by ‘Shemaroo International’ titled ‘Masta chaalalay aamach’. The film was released on 29th April. There is disgraceful denigration of Hindu Saints in the film and religious sentiments of Hindus have been ridiculed. (Lack of unity among Hindus and indifference towards Dharma is the cause of such mockery of religious sentiments of Hindus at commercial level ! – Editor SP) Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) has therefore, registered protest by submitting a representation to the Central Censor Board in its Mumbai office. The distributor of the film Mr. Avinash Kharshikar stated that the film was against fake ‘Babas’ and promised to have discussions with HJS members.

Shrewd producers !

The producers have shown their shrewdness by declaring in the beginning of the film that ‘The incidents shown in the movie are not related to any specific religion, caste or sect. It is not our intention to hurt feelings of anyone and it will be a matter of coincidence if that happens’; however, religious sentiments of Hindus are hurt throughout the whole film. (Just by showing a statement in the beginning of the film, the producers feel that they have been granted permission to hurt religious sentiments of Hindus. Hindus, protest, in lawful manner, against the producers and show them that your religious sentiments are not so cheap ! – Editor SP)

Opposition of HJS

Miss Anita Balani of HJS met Ms. Pankaja Thakur of the Central Censor Board to register protest against the said film for hurting religious sentiments of Hindus through the denigration shown in the film. (Hindus should note that only HJS is fighting against the denigration of their seats of worship and they should support it ! – Editor SP) A representation was submitted to Ms. Thakur demanding ban on the film. She assured that feelings of HJS activists would be conveyed to the Head Office and suggested that HJS should meet or contact the Central Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni in connection with any kind of denigrations. Mrs. Varsha Thakar of HJS registered protest with Mr. Avinash Kharshikar of ‘Shemaroo International’. He said, “I am also against denigration shown in films and plays. This film, is, however, against ‘fake’ ‘Babas’ who have nothing to do with the true Saints. You meet me on Monday for discussions.” (It is right to be against denigration of Deities; but there is no need to indulge in mud-slinging against Saints for creation of humour. Will Mr. Kharshikar dare to play with the religious sentiments of  followers of other religions in such manner? – Editor SP)

Feedbacks from viewers

Mrs. Joshi – In every incident, there is denigration of objects of worship of Hindus. The character of ‘Maharaj’ has been created only to create cheap jokes and there are some incidents which have no relevance to the story of the film.

Mr. Harish Jadhav – The old time actors like Damuanna Malwankar and Sharad Talwalkar used to create comic scenes / humour on the strength of their acting prowess. They never hurt anyone’s faith or feelings. The present generation of actors should be ashamed of themselves that they are hurting others’ religious sentiments.

Denigration from the film

1. H. H. Anna Maharaj is a character shown as a fake ‘Baba’ representative of all Saints. This character does miracles and behaves in a very indecent manner in the ‘Mutt’.

2. It is told that ‘Maharaj’ is mainly very popular with women

3. The ‘aartis’ recited here are set tune to an old Hindi film song ‘Mungala Mungala…..’

4. A middle-aged woman-devotee of this Maharaj is shown dancing in front of this ‘Maharaj’ making very weird gestures.

5. The incident where Sri Krushna lifts ‘Govardhan’ mountain has been ridiculed. This ‘Maharaj’ gets a fake mountain prepared from his agents in the ashram; which they lift upwards and the Maharaj stands beneath this mountain to show as if he has lifted the mountain on his little finger. His people already gathered there, tell other people that Maharaj has taken over on his head, all the sins committed by others. In between, this Maharaj removes his finger to clean his nose. In a short while, the mountain collapses and the ‘Maharaj’ is suppressed under it. The agents of Maharaj tell the devotees, “This is also a miracle.”

6. There is denigration of an incident viz. ‘Kaalia-Mardan’ by Sri Krushna. In this scene, Maharaj slides down in a water tank from a ‘Water Park’. The followers of Maharaj in saffron robes start dancing like lunatics with guitar in their hand. While climbing a serpent made of rubber, he skips down in water when all followers start telling people that he has taken in all sins committed by them.

7. There are songs in the film with double meaning

8. n one incident, a woman starts dancing with weird gestures in front of the photograph of Anna Maharaj when police go to her house for inquiry. Her son-in-law tells the police that she was behaving in such manner because she wanted to become a Saint.

9. Many times in this film, name of Anna Maharaj is taken when his photograph making very funny gesticulations comes on full screen.

One cannot be a Hindu if his blood does not boil on reading the above.
