Porvorim, Goa – A disturbing case of sexual harassment involving a 15-year-old Hindu girl has come to light in Saligao. A jihadi youth from another state named Zulfikar contacted the girl on social media. He then trapped her in a love affair, sexually harassed her, and later planned to convert her religion. The investigation into this case is currently under investigation by senior police officers.

In response, the Sakal Hindu Samaj submitted a memorandum to the Saligao Police Station and to Saligao MLA Kedar Naik, demanding the immediate implementation of an ‘anti-love jihad law’ in Goa.

The memorandum urged the government to pay attention to the rapidly increasing cases of ‘love jihad’ across the country and in Goa. It noted that despite submitting a previous memorandum on this issue, no concrete action had been taken so far. As a result, incidents of Hindu girls being trapped in love affairs, forcibly converted, and even brutally murdered when they resist continued to surface.

The memorandum highlighted several shocking cases of atrocities against young women that have shaken the nation, including those of Shraddha Walkar, Sakshi, and Anuradha. It noted that in Goa too, cases of atrocities, kidnappings, and forced nikah involving minor girls have risen in recent years. In 2024 alone, 106 rape cases were registered in the state, which is a matter of serious concern for public safety.

This problem is no longer limited only to rural areas, but has also reached educated and professional sectors. The case of ‘corporate jihad’ at TCS in Nashik has also been in the news recently. The incident of harassment involving a minor girl that came to light two days ago in Saligao has created an atmosphere of fear and anger among local citizens.

The memorandum further mentions that allegations had surfaced in the past regarding the banned organisation Popular Front of India (PFI) arranging financial inducements to trap non-fanatic girls. Along with this, various judicial and government committees had expressed concern over conversion-related matters and stated the need for strict laws.

Key demands raised

  1. A strict ‘anti-love jihad’ and anti-conversion law must be implemented immediately in Goa, similar to those in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and other states.
  2. A special police wing should be established to investigate such cases and ensure justice for the victims.
  3. The Home Department should issue necessary instructions to the police to thoroughly investigate and dismantle any potential networks or links involved in such activities in Goa.
  4. The Home Department should form an independent inquiry committee to investigate whether there is an interstate conspiracy or foreign financial aid behind the disappearance of women and girls.

The Sakal Hindu Samaj warned that such a law is essential for protecting the peace, culture, and safety of Goa’s future generations, and urged the government to take immediate and decisive action.
