Kolhapur, Maharashtra – Hindu organisations have expressed strong outrage over the renowned dairy brand ‘Gokul’ (Kolhapur District Cooperative Milk Producers Union), widely regarded as a symbol of Maharashtra’s identity, for obtaining a ‘Halal’ certificate.
Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, along with other Hindu organisations, has warned that if the Halal certificate is not cancelled immediately, they will launch a massive public agitation, call for a total boycott of Gokul products, and organise a large-scale protest march directly at the Gokul headquarters.
🚨 Why does milk, ghee & butter need a “Halal” certificate?
The decision to certify Gokul Milk products as Halal has raised serious concerns among Hindus.
Why impose Halal on purely vegetarian dairy products?
Hindu society must raise its voice against this growing normalization.… pic.twitter.com/xERUDDG0yP— Sunil Ghanwat 🛕🛕 (@SG_HJS) May 30, 2026
A detailed memorandum on this matter was submitted by representatives of Hindu organisations to the Gokul administrative board, Kolhapur District Collector Dr Vijay Rathod, and Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Ashok Mane.
On this occasion, the activists burnt a copy of the Halal certificate. They expressed strong anger, stating that in a secular country, such decision which disregards government certifications has deeply hurt the sentiments of the majority Hindu consumers. They demanded that the administration immediately take cognisance of the matter and cancel the certificate.

While Gokul administration claims the certificate is necessary for exports to Gulf countries, Hindu organisations have termed this justification completely illogical. When there is huge demand for Gokul milk within Maharashtra and India itself, and the brand has not yet reached every part of the country, why this unnecessary haste to sell only to Muslim countries?

They further questioned the need for a separate religion-based certificate when official government bodies such as the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) already exist, terming it as a clear insult to India’s secular Constitution and government institutions. Uttar Pradesh has already banned Halal certification for this very reason.
Gokul’s products are already trusted by millions.
⚖️ If milk, ghee and butter fully comply with FSSAI standards and are inherently vegetarian, why is an additional religion-based Halal certification needed?
❓ Aren’t Indian regulatory standards sufficient?… pic.twitter.com/FF22NdF3Bo

Through Halal certification, a dangerous parallel economy is being run in the country. Organisations like Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind, which issue these certificates, use the funds collected through Halal certification to fight legal cases for jihadi terrorists. Hindus are asking why their hard-earned money spent on Gokul products should indirectly support anti-national activities and the release of terrorists.
If the milk is ‘Halal’ certified, why should the majority Hindu population pay for it? Treating this as a national issue, the organisations have demanded the immediate cancellation of the certificate and a thorough investigation into the former chairman and board members who took this decision.

Present at the protest were Shivnand Swami of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, Niranjan Shinde of Maharaja Pratishthan, Raju Yadav of Shiv Sena (UBT), Gajanan Todkar of Hindu Ekta Andolan, along with senior functionaries and activists from Bajrang Dal, Mandir Mahasangh, Maratha Tituka Melvava, Hindu Mahasabha, Human Rights organisations, Positive Watch, and Hindu Vidnyan Parishad.
Gokul administrators have assured the delegation that the matter will be discussed in detail in the upcoming board meeting and an appropriate decision will be taken.

Why has a pure vegetarian brand bowed to ‘Halal’ certification?

Kolhapur, Maharashtra – Western Maharashtra’s renowned ‘Kolhapur District Cooperative Milk Producers Union’, popularly known as ‘Gokul’, has obtained ‘Halal’ certification for some of its products, such as ghee, butter, and milk powder. A copy of the certificate has circulated on social media, showing that it came into effect on 19 March 2025 and remains valid until 18 March 2028. Hindu consumers and pro-Hindu organisations expressed strong outrage on this issue.
Questions are being raised on social media, asking, “What is the absolute need for Halal certification for purely vegetarian dairy products?”
It is being alleged that this decision was made while Navid Mushrif, son of Medical Education Minister Hasan Mushrif, was serving as the chairman of ‘Gokul’.

Certification is for exports to Gulf countries – Medical Education Minister Hasan Mushrif
Answering journalists on the matter, Medical Education Minister Hasan Mushrif said, “This certification was originally obtained back in 2022. It is a technical and standard requiremrnt for international trade. Gokul’s ghee, butter, and milk powder are exported in large quantities to countries like Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Turkey, Jordan, and Syria. According to the trade regulations of these countries, the sale of food products is not permitted without a ‘Halal certificate’, which is why this certification was acquired.”
Halal – The gateway to the Islamisation of India
What is ‘Halal’ certification?
According to Islam, ‘halal’ means that which is lawful or permitted. Previously, halal certification was restricted only to meat, but now it is also obtained for other items including household goods, medicines, and cosmetics. In other words, it certifies that the product in question complies with Islamic standards. Certain Islamic organisations operate for this purpose, and the certificate approved by them is called a ‘Halal’ certificate.
- The aggressive expansion of Halal certification to purely vegetarian dairy products like Gokul’s ghee, butter, and milk powder exposes a dangerous attempt to impose a parallel Islamic certification monopoly in India.
- Hindu businesses and consumers are being forced to pay religious certification fees to private Islamic organisations, even when products are already certified by government bodies like FSSAI.
- It is high time Hindus unite and demand a nationwide ban on this unnecessary parallel Halal economy that undermines India’s secular commercial framework.
