Panaji (Goa): Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) celebrated Martyrdom Day of patriotic and valiant queen of Jhansi , Rani Laxmibai from 17th June to 19th June at four places in Goa. Her valorous deeds acclaimed on these occasions and a call was made to all to emulate her.

On 17th June the celebration was held at Kucheli, Bardez at Mrs. Swati Verlekar’s residence. Mrs. Swati Verlekar, Mr. Rajesh Korgaokar of HJS and Mrs. Rajashri Gadekar of ‘Ranaragini wing’ were on the dais. At the start, an auspicious lamp was lit at the hands of Mrs. Swati Verlekar which was followed by the shloka  ‘Sarva Mangal Mangalye ……’. Mrs. Rajeshri Gadekar said while addressing the gathering that women are highly educated in today’s world; but the ill-treatment that they suffer irrespective of their high education is ever on the rise. Hence as the need of the hour, they also should try to get Dharmashikshan along with self-defense training. If we do it then only we can fight successfully the ill-treatment meted out to us. Mr. Rajesh Korgaokar said in his address that still Hindus are not united. Even though they are scared of acute problems like terrorism, conversion, etc. they coolly enjoy watching television matches and entertainment programmes. Since they have no Dharmashikshan they suffer. HJS has undertaken the mission of awakening them through imparting Dharmashikshan. Having inspired by his talk Mrs. Swati Verlekar spontaneously made a demand to start imparting Dharnashikshan in Kucheli. She also expressed her will to help them in starting the class.

A similar programme was organised in Mhapasa by HJS at the residence of Mrs. Uma Ugavekar on 18th June. Mr. Rajesh Korgaokar was invited as the guest speaker. Taking the advantage of Goa Revolution Day (Goa Muktisangram Din) he invited them in earnest to participate in the constitutional legal battle for safeguarding the Nation and Dharma; as the revolutionaries had given a tough fight against Portuguese then. Ranaragini Mrs. Rajashri Gadekar was present on the dais.

In Panaji too homage was paid to dynamic Rani Laxmibai in Kasturba Matoshri High School on behalf of HJS on 18th June. Ex. Headmistress Mrs. Kumud Kamat was invited to be the guest speaker. Mrs. Kumud Kamat said in her address to the students and teachers that chauvinistic warrior queen of Jhansi, Rani Laxmibai should be praised for her extraordinary courage, ingenuity, fearlessness, tremendous self-confidence, perseverance and most important for her blazing patriotism and intense faith in Dharma. While fighting the British she demoralized them by her bravery and courage. She advised the students to read biographies of great warrior kings and queens to contemplate upon their virtues, their good qualities and try to imbibe them. At the beginning of the programme, all present there paid homage to the freedom fighters taking congnisance of the ‘Goa Revolution Day’. She said further that, Rani Laxmibai had followed Dharma ritually and had done a great service to her Husband, Gangadharrao, the king of Jhansi. That is why she could awaken the principle (tattva) of Sri Durgadevi in her which gave her all the extraordinary qualities to fight the enemy and win the battles. If we observe the principles of Dharma then we could also awaken God’s principle in us. The programme concluded with ‘Pasaydan’

On 19th June a programme was organised on behalf of HJS to celebrate the Martyrdom Day of Rani Laxmibai at Kanaka, Bardez at the residence of Mrs. Sunita Nagavekar. Ex. Jilla Pachayat member, social worker and a staunch Hindu. Mrs. Nita Kandolkar, Mr. Rajesh Korgaokar of HJS, Mrs. Rajashri Gadekar of Ranaragini Wing were on the dais. When speaker Mrs. Rajashri Gadekar explained the gathering about ‘Love Jihad’ in which women were made the targets for marrying and then converting them. Hearing this report all the women present there were furious. Mrs. Parab from Pernem, who was present there said to HJS that she would take the lead in organizing such a progrmme in Pernem.
