Protest against denigration of Hindu Deities by Laxmans Art & Craft website

We at Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) have received several complaints from devout Hindus regarding the way various revered Hindu Deities including Shri Ganesh, Shri Krushna, Shri Laxmi and the sacred syllable ‘Om’ are printed on numerous clothing and home furnishing products such as bedsheets, T-shirts /Tank T-shirts, Kurtas, Shoulder bags, scarves, Wall Hangings, Handmade Notebooks on the Laxmans Art & Craft website http://www.laxmansartncraft.com/products.html

Upon reviewing the products, HJS team immediately notified and appealed to the owners of the business Shri Abhijit Patel & Smt. Sita Patel requesting them to remove the denigrating items. In the appeal, HJS explained how printing of Hindu Deities on clothing and home furnishing products for increasing sales and profits are not only hurting the sentiments of Hindus but also setting a wrong precedence for others to follow the unrighteous path and sadly society will be deprived from knowing the importance and significance of the Hindu Deities. The appeal letter also clarified that once the clothing is worn out, it will be thrown in a dustbin resulting in the denigration of the revered Deities, Shri Ganesh, Shiv, Shri Krushna and Shri Laxmi.

The HJS team has not received any response from Laxmans Art & Craft customer team. Consequently, HJS now requests all readers to appeal against this appalling denigration peacefully and lawfully by calling the numbers below requesting to remove the denigrating items from their http://www.laxmansartncraft.com shopping portal and not to make such denigrating products in the future.

Namaskar,

We at Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) have received several complaints from devout Hindus regarding the way various revered Hindu Deities including Shri Ganesh, Shri Krushna, Shri Laxmi and the sacred syllable ‘Om’ are printed on numerous clothing and home furnishing products such as bedsheets, T-shirts /Tank T-shirts, Kurtas, Shoulder bags, scarves, Wall Hangings, Handmade Notebooks on the Laxmans Art & Craft website http://www.laxmansartncraft.com/products.html

We would like to bring to your immediate attention that the clothing products, having images of various revered Hindu Deities, for online sale are not in accordance with the Hindu Shaastra (spiritual science as per the Hindu scriptures). In fact, these products denigrate the Hindu Deities and symbols.

Using the revered Hindu deities and Hindu sacred symbol ’Om’ loosely on apparels/furnishings as artwork is not only hurting the sentiments of Hindus but also trivializing them. This will set a wrong example for others and society will unknowingly be a part of this denigration. To explain more, once the clothes or home decor accessories are used, the soiled and worn out items will be thrown into a dustbin and from there they will eventually end up in a civic dumping ground, resulting in their denigration. Thus, the sanctity of Shri Ganesh and ‘Om’ will not be maintained and preserved during these practices. Hindus treat their divine Deities and holy symbols with utmost reverence and devotion. The commercialization of Deities and sacred symbols is a cheap way to boost sales.

The sanctity of the Hindu Deity’s images can be maintained only in the puja (ritualistic worship) room, in an altar or in other similar sattvik (pure) places. Hindus worship Shri Ganesh prior to commencing any ritual or an auspicious act. Also, showing Deities in any form other than as in the Scriptures leads to inaccurate presentation of the respective deity, and it denigrates and trivializes Them. In the minds of the buyer, a fictional image of the Deities will form over a period and hence, it will obstruct the development of their faith in the Deities, which is most important in worshipping them and experiencing Their Divine presence and blessings.

We urge you to consider the above points and remove the various denigrating clothing and home furnishings products, which are not in accordance with Hinduism from your website. We stress that our aim in bringing up these points is to educate and ensure that Hindu Deities and Hinduism gets accurately represented in society. Hinduism has been misrepresented and misappropriated at many levels. Though it is an ancient tradition, Hinduism has a lot to offer the modern world and we want children and adults alike to be able to understand and study it without it being misrepresented or misappropriated. You can take one step towards ensuring that Hindu Deities and Hinduism does not get disrespected by removing the denigrating images from your products and stop selling them.
