Panaji (Goa): Idol desecration is an unfortunate matter. I will personally look into this matter to curb such incidents, assured Goa’s Governor Shri. Sivinder Singh Siddhu. A delegation of the Akhil Goa Mandir Suraksha Samiti, which is instrumental in creating awareness to curb the increasing incidences of desecration of Hindu temples and deities in Goa State, met with the Governor Shri. During the meeting, the Samiti’s delegation briefed the Governor about the series of incidents of desecration of Hindu temples and idols in the past and the failure of the police and the government to nab the culprits. It further briefed him about the Samiti’s activities, blessings of Saints to the Samiti and the overwhelming response it has received from the people. Though the series of temple desecration incidents are still happening, the Hindu community has shown tolerance till now.

Also, Hindus are agitating against this in a peaceful and constitutional manner. Had such incidents to take place in case of other religions, the situation would have been reverse. The delegation also informed the Governor about the incident that occurred at the Krushnavad, Sainagar, Porvorim on 23rd August on the occasion of Sree Krishna Janmasthami, where there was opposition for the celebrations. It also informed him that the opponent Pamela abused Sree Krushna by using derogatory words and that the Samiti’s office bearer Shri. Vinayak Chari was attacked. All these incidents cited above indicate that there is an anti-Hindu atmosphere prevailing in Goa, thus the government and the administration should take concrete measures so that the Hindus feel secure.

The Governor listened to the delegation and appealed to maintain the religious harmony that prevails in Goa. He also asserted that the temples of Goa are clean and pious. The delegation comprised of Shri. Rajendra Velingkar, Dharmajagran Pramukh; Shri. Vinayak Chari, Bajrang Dal Goa State Chief; Shri. Jayesh Thali, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti; Shri. Sudesh Naik, Padmanabh Sampraday’s treasurer and Kum. Sangeeta Naik, Sanatan Sanstha. The Samiti also gave the Governor a list of the incidents of temple desecration in Goa.
