Agitation by Hindu activists, demanding action against officers responsible for Pu. Raghunandangiri Maharaj’s death
Thane (Maharashtra) : In a country of Hindus, Hindu Saint has to sacrifice his life for protection of temple, is a very disgraceful thing. How did forest officers dare to insult Saints ? Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had performed ‘puja’ of ‘Shiva-linga’ in Shri Gangeshwar Mahadev Shiva-Mandir which was looked after by Pujya Raghunandangiri Maharaj (Pu. Fakkad Baba). The Government will have to pay for its sins in the forthcoming elections for degrading an ancient temple and being responsible for the death of Pu. Raghunandangiri Maharaj. The above warning was given by Dr. Upendra Dahake, Kalyan city Vice President of BJP during demonstrations staged in front of District Collector’s office by pro-Hindu activists. A representation was submitted to Dy. District Collector, Jairam Pawar. It was also warned that if attention was not paid to the demands made by pro-Hindu activists, agitation would be intensified. About 90 devout Hindus took part in the demonstrations.
1. Shri. Sheshnarayan Tripathi, Dy. Editor of ‘Dopahar kaa Saamnaa’ said, “Fight till end so as to do justice to Pu. Raghunandangiri Maharaj.”
2. Shri. Vikran Bhoir, VHP’s Thane- Zone –‘Saha-Mantri’ said, “If the Government is going to regularize all slums built before 2005, why is it not regularizing such ancient temple ? At a durgah which is close to this temple, known as ‘Mama-Bhanja’ durgah, ‘urus’ is celebrated on large scale; but no obstacles are created for the same. In-depth inquiry should be conducted of the officers responsible for torturing Pu. Raghunandangiri Maharaj, throughout the year.”
Why were the demonstrations held ?
1. Two days prior to Mahashivaratri, small marquee erected outside ancient Shri Gangeshwar temple located in Wagle Estate area and gou-shala, was demolished by Forest Department without giving any prior notice.
2. Pu. Raghunandangiri Maharaj a.k.a. Fakkad Baba, who used to look after this temple, got a shock due to such action taken by Forest Department and he stopped taking food. Finally, he breathed his last while observing fast.
3. Responsible officers should be booked for the offence.
4. Protection should be provided for ‘samadhi’ of Pu. Raghunandan Maharaj and for Mahants who are now taking care of this temple.
