State Government should set up Maharashtra Gad-Durg Mahamandal to protect and conserve forts

Former MLA Mr. Balasaheb Murkute’s letter to Cultural Affairs Minister Mr. Sudhir Mungantiwar

Encroachments and Islamization of forts

Mumbai – At present, historical forts are in a dilapidated condition and a large number of illegal houses, graves, dargahs, mosques and other constructions are being built by encroaching upon the land there. If these encroachments are not removed, one day the history of these forts will be Islamized. Forts are being conserved in other states, Maharashtra should emulate this, requested former MLA Mr. Balasaheb Murkute in a letter to Cultural Affairs Minister Mr. Sudhir Mungantiwar on 2nd March 2023.

Other points presented by Mr. Balasaheb Murkute

1. The government has taken a commendable action to evict the encroachments on Pratapgarh; but even today at least 35 important forts in Maharashtra have been encroached upon. Urgent steps are required against this.

2. A grand march was organized by the Maharashtra Gad-Durg Rakshan Samiti with the aforementioned demands. So, the government should protect and conserve the forts and forts of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj by establishing the Maharashtra Gad-Durg Mahamandal (Maharashtra Commission for Forts).
