Anti-Hindu M.F. Hussain’s painting exhibition for world peace?

New Delhi: Top Indian artists have teamed up yet again, and this time their masterstrokes are for world peace. S.H. Raza, M.F. Husain and Satish Gujral have painted their canvases in the hues of peace – showcasing the power of art to the world yet again. Their works will be unveiled at UNESCO’s global forum on the power of peace in Bali on January 21. The three-day exhibition is being jointly organised with the government of Indonesia.

The brain behind the exhibition, S.K. Modi told reporters, "The exhibition will showcase contemporary Indian art, the theme of which is Indian art for the power of peace." "Art is a universal and effective medium of conveying this very important message of peace and harmony," he added. UNESCO’s global forum aims at promoting peace and this is the first time that an Indian delegation has been invited, said Modi, who runs the Dayawati Modi Foundation for Art, Culture and Education. The exhibition has been organised by Mumbai-based Kalpana Shah.

Shah, who collected the works of almost 30 artists for the Bali show, says, "Artists like S.H. Raza, M.F. Husain and Akbar Padamsee and a great many others have used their iconic creativity to sow the seeds of peace, as a selfless act of love. "Just like a dancer must dance, a poet must write, and a pianist must play – these artists have created for peace," she said.

(On account of M.F. Hussain’s nude paintings of Hindu deities and Bharatmata, peace has been disturbed in India as obvious from 1250 police complaints, numerous court cases against him and the worldwide protests. Does this painter deserve the display of his paintings for world peace? Hindus, voice your opinion to UNESCO in this regard. Editor)
