Hubli (Karnataka) : Temple of Chaugamma Devi and a mosque was demolished by the Government at Bengeri in the morning. The pro-Hindu organizations and devout Hindus opposed demolition of the temple. Hindus tried to make the Government officials see some sense; stones were pelted; even then the temple was demolished leading to enragement of Hindus. They set fire to few tyres causing blockage of traffic on that road for two hours. Later, the Municipal Commissioner took initiative and stopped the demolition work. After the machines used in demolition work were sent back, the devout Hindus immediately started re-construction of the temple. The devout Hindus have re-installed the Deities’ idols in place of the temple and have erected a small tent.
