Gold eye of Narasimha idol stolen in Pune Dist.

Ranjani (Dist. Pune, Maharashtra) :
On the midnight of Sunday, there was theft in Narasimha Temple at Srikshetra Ranjani, Ambegaon Taluka in Pune District in which gold eyes of the idol of Lord Narasimha and about Rs.10,000/- from the donation box were stolen. The eyes were 231 years old and weighed 5 ‘tolas’. The local residents observed a ‘bandh’ on Monday to protest against the theft.

The temple was constructed in the year 1780 by Nana Phadanavis. The iron bars of the sanctum sanctorum were bent by the thieves to enter. Mr. Jagannath Ghodekar, who had gone for cleaning of the temple, first noticed it and informed the Sarpanch, priest and police about the theft. All of them reached the place of incident. Police dog could not trace the thieves. All schools, offices, banks, offices, hotels and shops were closed down in protest.

Nashik (Maharashtra) : There are idols of Sree Saraswati, Sree Lakshmi and Sree Kalika Devi in the famous Sree Kalika Devi temple here. Two robbers entered the temple in the midnight of Monday and stole diamond necklaces and earrings from all the idols. The robbers ran away when the watchmen started shouting. A complaint has been lodged with the police.
