Hindu New year welcomed in Maharashtra and Goa with great enthusiasm

Mumbai : Chaitra Shuddha Pratipada ! 5120th Hindu New Year in Kaliyug commenced today. Most of the prominent cities in Maharashtra traditionally dressed Hindus had organised processions carrying saffron Flags and beating ‘Dhol – tasha’ (Musical instruments) welcomed the new Year and gave best wishes to each other.

At some places demonstrations of self-defence were held by Sanatan Sanstha and HJS by participating in the processions (Feri). Feris commenced in Girgaum, Dahisar, Dombivali, Thane since morning. Rangolis everywhere were the great attractions. Even in Goa New Year was welcomed on a grand scale.

Processions along with floats depicting various scenes, beating of dhol-tasha, lezim, raising saffron flags all over were unique. Children had put on dresses of national leaders. Guests from abroad also had joined the feri in Mumbai. Ladies had joined the feri in Girgaum on two-wheelers. The message of ‘Save water’ was giving during the feri. In Pandharpur Brahmadhwaj was changed as per the tradition. Processions were also held in Nashik, Sangli too on a very grand scale.

In the procession that was held in Kolhapur exhibited Marathi culture; whereas in Ichalkaranji, the New year was welcomed with vocal recital in the early morning.
