Inclusion of Shivaji Maharaj, Maharana Pratap in ‘NCERT’ books is a success of Hindu organisations

Because of contribution of National Heroes such as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Maharana Pratap, Bajirao Peshwa, etc. Hindu community is leading a life full of pride. Unfortunately, for last so many years, the history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was taught in just 6 lines through NCERT textbooks contained in NCERT textbook; whereas the name of Maharana Pratap was mentioned in passing. However, the history of Mughal invaders occupied pages after pages. Since 2008, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti is holding agitations over this issue at national level under the aegis of Rashtriya Hindu Andolan. As a result, the Goa Government, by taking cognisance of agitations of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, withdrew the NCERT history textbook, and a new textbook containing the chapters related to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj was introduced in the curriculum. However, since the Congress Government, for which Mughal invaders were the idols, was in power in Maharashtra and Delhi, it did not bother to look into the matter. Samiti followed up the issue several times after pro-Hindutva Government came to the power in 2014; its efforts ultimately borne fruits. The success belongs only to joint efforts made by all devout Hindu organisations and those who love Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Similarly, the credit also goes to people’s representatives belonging to Shiv Sena party who have followed the issue to its conclusion in the Assembly and Parliament. Hindu Janajagruti Samiti also sincerely thanks the Bharatiya Janata Party which has included the history of Indian Kings in the altered textbooks. However, Samiti will decide on its next line of action only after perusing the new textbook on publication and confirming whether proper justice has been given to the history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in it.

However, certain organisations which are interested in vandalising in the name of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj appear to be making no efforts for including the history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the textbooks. The success, obtained on the background of ‘Shivjayanti’ will inspire us in our fights on similarl issues, in the future, said Mr. Ramesh Shinde, Spokesperson of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti.
