Chandur (Dist. Amaravati, Maharashtra): Devidas Pujari (age- 75 yrs), the priest of Sri Kalumata Mandir on Songaon Road was found killed and the temple robbed by unknown persons. He seemed to have been attacked with some sharp weapon on his neck. The silver crown on the head of Devi’s idol and cash in the donation box, total robbery of  Rs. 21,000/-, have been stolen.

The mishap was noticed in the morning and the villagers called up the police. A complaint has been lodged in this respect. The main purpose of murder seemed to be robbery. (Many incidents of robbery in temples have taken place in Maharashtra and Goa; but police have failed to nab any of the culprits which has emboldened the offenders. Why should Hindus provide for such useless machinery by paying taxes? – Editor SP)
