Sulya (Karnataka): A massive protest rally was organized by the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti to protest against the Government’s order to demolish the unauthorized Hindu Temples, Hindu Mutt. Several temples have history of more than a few hundred years. The procession began from the Sriram Bhajan Mandir in Sriram Peth, after the worship of the Dharma Dhwaj. Proceeding through the National Highway that passes through Sulya, it reached the Vishnu circle from where it further moved to the old Sulya bus stand. The public meeting was held at the end of the rally at the old bus stand.

While addressing the protesters, Mr. Manikkaara Gopalakrishna Shanabhag, the Trustee of Bellare Sri Venktatramana Temple said, “The decision of the Karnataka government, about demolishing the Hindu Temples having the history of hundreds of years is very shocking and traumatizing.”

Mr. D S Rai, the Former President of Puttur district, VHP cautioned, “so many of us have assembled here; The deities of these places have given us inspiration on so many occasions. But we have remained quiet and did nothing to protect them. Those who are sitting quietly with their hands tied, doing nothing about such Anti-Hindu acts, should become aware that these same energies will cause the downfall and destruction of those people.’’

Mr. Mallya of HJS said, “The government is framing a new law for take over of the temples. At the same time it is wants to label them as illegitimate Temples, thereby making provision for them to be demolished. This is an attack on Hindu Dharma.  Hence, all Hindus have to become alert and work incessantly for the legitimization of these temples.

Mr. Shriram Bhat of HJS said, “Today we are getting scorched in this heat and participating in this protest rally. If we Hindus do not give up our limiting attachment to our caste, creed, party etc. and fight unitedly, we will vanish in the future. He also welcomed the spectators at the beginning of the program as well as proposed the vote of thanks.

Around 500 Hindus devout hailing from various places of about 18 Temples attended the rally and meeting. After the rally, the memorandum was submitted to Tehsildar in the Taluka office.
