Issue regarding gold-plating of Sri Vitthal Mandir at Pandharpur : Dr. Vishwanath Karad criticizes Mandir Committee

Mumbai: The Mandir Committee has done nothing in the interest of warakaris so far. There is water- seepage in the temple, cleanliness is not maintained and there are cobwebs in the sanctum sanctorum. (Every field that the Government has entered into, it has created disorder and anarchy. People should unite to take away the management of the Hindu temples from the Government; else, the temples, which are the only source of divine energy, will get destroyed ! – Editor SP) It is wrong on the part of the Committee to turn down the demand of devotees to gold-plate the sanctum sanctorum of the temple, stated Dr. Vishwanath Karad, the Director of Vishwashanti Kendra (Alandi) and MIT, an educational institute. He was talking to a news channel and his views have also been published in a circular issued by him.

Dr. Karad has said in the circular, “The proposal was pending with the Committee for 3 months. A management committee for the purpose was formed with keertankars, pravachankars, fadakaris and warakaris besides other eminent personalities from various fields. The Committee was given full details of the same; but it declined the proposal and hurt feelings of all warakaris and devotees. The funds for the proposal have not been collected from any individual or organization; but it has been offered by warakaris on their own. The Mandir committee has insulted the efforts of warakaris.”

Dr. Karad’s accusations are baseless – claims Mandir Committee in typical Government style

Jayant Bhandari, a member of Mandir Committee said in this regard, “ Mandir Committee has so far undertaken many activities like constructing of Bhakta-niwas, Tukaram Niwas etc; therefore, Dr. Karad’s accusations are baseless. Dr. Karad should have offered the gold he intended to donate in his individual capacity. There seems to be his selfish motive in collecting it from the people.” (Does theMandir Committee, which cannot even keep the temple clean, has right to advise how the funds for the temple should be collected? – Editor SP)

Pandharpur (Maharashtra): A proposal was put up by ‘Vishwashanti Centre, Alandi’ and ‘MIT College’ for gold-plating of the case of Sri Vitthal- Rakhumai idols, doors of the temple, the Garud (Eagle) Pillar etc. by collecting gold from the Warakaris; but the proposal has been turned down by the Mandir Committee. The above information was given by Advocate Shashikant Page, the President of the Committee. A meeting of the Committee was held at ‘Bhakta-niwas’ presided by Mr. Page. Minutes of the last meeting, accounts etc. were approved in this meeting. Matter regarding facilities to be extended to the devotees during the Kartiki Ekadashi festival was also discussed. (The secular Congress Government is leading in distributing money collected in the Hindu temples to followers of other religions and its representatives appointed on the temple committees promptly refuse the proposals to spend such money for the temples. The situation will not change unless anti-Hindu secularism is not eliminated from this country ! –  Editor SP)
