Will Muslims accept the verdict passed by the Court in respect of ‘Ram-janma-bhoomi’ ? – HJS

In the background of Court’s verdict on Sriram-janma-bhoomi, the mass media has, as usual, started asking many questions like ‘Was there really Sriram Temple at that place?’, ‘What is going to be your stand with regard to the verdict?’, ‘Are you going to stage agitations?’, ‘Is there possibility of the verdict going in favour of the Muslims?’ etc. We are, therefore, clarifying our stand in this matter.

1. There is no need to discuss the possibilities with respect to this issue before the verdict

It is wrong to even ask a question like ‘Is there a possibility of the verdict going in favour of Muslims?’ as it shows lack of faith in judicial system. The discussions and thoughts being expressed in the issue, seem to be one-sided.

2. ‘Did Sriram Temple exist at that place?’- why ask this question raising such doubt?

a. When ‘Ramayana’ has a history of thousands and millions of years, how can one say that Babur with history of 450 years built the mosque?

b. It is very unfortunate that a landlord has to prove that the house is his: In ‘Badshahnama’, there are still many evidences of Aurangzeb issuing orders to destroy temples and construct mosques in their places. Sri Kashi-Vishweshvar Temple and Sri Somnath Temple, where former President had performed ‘puja’, are the examples of Aurangzeb’s idol-destruction policy. It is very unfortunate that an attacker takes control of a house and the owner of the house has to prove his right over the property.

c. Many places which were associated with the life of Sriram and mentioned in Ramayana written thousands of years back, like Ayodhya, Sharayu River, Dankaranya, Panchvati, Sri Rameshwar, Dhanushkodi etc. still hold their old traditional names. How can then one accept the claim that it is not Sriram Temple but a mosque?

d. Many proofs found in excavation of the place showing existence of Sriram Mandir: It has been proved in the excavations undertaken as per the order of the Court that there was Sriram Mandir at the disputed site. Their photographs are also available on some websites which reinforces the claim of there being a temple.

e. Ayodhya is related to the life of Sriram. Is it associated with any of the incidents related to Babur’s life? There is no other mosque bearing a name of any individual other than ‘Babur’; then why should there be a dispute about ‘Babri’?

3. Hindus have always been very understanding; but what about Muslims? : Hindus have always been very understanding and tolerant.

At the time of independence, Muslims divided this ‘Bharatmata’ on the basis of religion; but they are extended every facility in Bharat; even then, they are not ready to say ‘Vande Mataram’. On the other hand, attempts are being made to blame Hindus for everything. Even before the verdict has been declared, the Government has issued notices, under the guise of preventive measures, to Hindus without any reason and has started breach of Constitutional rights of the citizens.

a. Hindus will go to the Supreme Court in case the decision is against them; but if it goes against Muslims, will it be accepted by them? : Hindus, although in majority, preferred the path of going to Court; therefore, even if the verdict goes against them, they will go to the Supreme Court. The only question is, if the verdict goes against Muslims, will they accept such decision? It may be seen from the past history that they have not accepted all decisions given by the Supreme Court. Shahabano case, equal civil rights, Sri Datta-peetha or Baba Budan Durgah’ issue in Karnataka, the decision of Supreme Court given in all these cases have been refuted by Muslims.

b. The mass-media should first think whether Muslims will respect the Court of this country rather than thinking what Hindus will do after the decision of the Court : If one unauthorized tomb or durgah is to be demolished, thousands of Muslims take to the roads and force the Government to withdraw its action; therefore, instead of asking Hindus what are they going to do after the verdict, it needs to be contemplated whether Muslims will respect the Courts in this country.
