Shivsainiks hold function and ceremoniously name the Bandra-Worli sea-link as ‘Swatantryaveer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar Sea Bridge’

Only Shivsainiks can indulge in such brave action

Mumbai: Shiv Sena has strongly objected to the naming of Bandra-Worli Sea-link after former Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi.  Yesterday, hundreds of Shivsainiks gathered near this bridge and named it after Swatantryaveer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar in a ceremony with breaking of coconut and performing ‘puja’.

Shivsainiks displayed name boards with this new name at 5 places on the bridge and staged agitation against naming of the bridge after Rajiv Gandhi. Police arrested 70 Shivsainiks in this connection who were later released on bail. Shivsainiks gathered near the bridge led by Shri. Ajay Chaudhary, Division-chief of Shiv Sena raising slogans, hailing Shiv Sena and Swatantryaveer Savarkar. The boards showed that such action was taken to commend respect to Marathi people.

Name of Rajiv Gandhi given with political motive – Hindu Mahasabha

Mumbai: There is no political motive behind Shiv Sena’s action to name the bridge after Swatantryaveer Savarkar and BJP’s promise to officially change the name once they gain power; but it is a political motive of Sharad Pawar to name the bridge after Rajiv Gandhi so that his party can jointly contest the forthcoming Assembly elections with Congress. The above allegation was made by Shri. Anup Keni, the president of Hindu Mahasabha in a circular published by Hindu Mahasabha.
