Those Hindus who don’t become furious after reading this, are not Hindus at all!

Panvel (Maharashtra): Idols of Sree Rama, Lakshman, Seeta and Hanuman, made up of marble, in a temple near Gujarati School on M G Road were found damaged in the night of 3rd June. This is not the first such incident in Panvel. A memorandum was submitted to Balasaheb Shinde, police sub-inspector on behalf of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) and Warakari against the incident as it has hurt religious sentiments of Hindus.

Idols of Sree Rama, Seeta and Hanuman damaged in Panvel

Jyeshtha Shuddha Trayodashi’

June 5, 2009

Panvel (Maharashtra): There is a Sree Rama Temple near Panchratna Hotel on Gujarati High School Road. Everyday in the morning, ‘puja’ is performed of the idols by ‘Navajawan Bal Mitramandal’. The idols of Sree Rama, Seeta, Lakshman and Hanuman, made up of marble, were damaged in the midnight by unknown miscreants. Hindu Organizations have strongly condemned this incident. A representation demanding strict action against the miscreants has been submitted by BJP to Shri. Suresh Bhosale, senior police inspector attached at Panvel city police station.

Yesterday in the midnight, unknown anti-social elements entered the temple and gashed the idols, cutting their hands and legs. The incident has enraged Hindus. Devout Hindus discussed the matter with Panvel city police inspector, Shri D. D. Tele, sub-inspector, Shri. Dilip Nalawade and senior police inspector, Shri. Suresh Bhosale. Shri. Bhosale assured them to nab the unknown culprits and file cases against the offenders.

Shri. Balasaheb Patil, District President of BJP for Panvel, Shri. Sanjay Hari Guruji, Vice President, Shri. Nilesh Chonkar, District Vice President of BJP Youth Wing, Shri. Rajan Pillai, taluka vice president, Shri. Baban Bargaje, its city president for Kalamboli, Shri. Pradip Jadhav, municipal councilor and members S/Shri. Amar Jadhav, Devidas Khedkar and Shri. Sudhakar Padhye of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti were present on the occasion.

Lethargic response by Police

It was expected that police would take prompt action in the morning after the incident took place in the midnight; but they did not take the matter seriously. Police protection was not provided to the temple in the morning. (Had similar incident taken place involving a mosque, would police dare to ignore it? – Editor S.P.) The police should have taken the damaged idols into their custody; but that did not happen. The idols with their broken parts were lying in a house near the temple. In the afternoon, police visited the temple and did ‘panchnama’.
