Karnataka Govt. sets code of conduct for priests under the guise of maintaining sanctity of religious places !

Who has given the right to the Karnataka Government to prepare code of conduct for the priests? Will the Government dare to set such code of conduct for church missionaries/ fathers and Mulla-maulavis? Before advising the priests on good conduct, the Government should first set a code of conduct for its ministers and MLAs.

Bengaluru (Maharashtra): Mr. V S Acharya, the Minister for ‘Muzrai (Religious activities)’ informed that the Karnataka Government has prepared a code of conduct for the priests under the pretext of maintaining sanctity of religious places. The above news was published by ‘Dainik Aaplaa Vartaahar’.

The priests should keep away from liquor, gambling, smoking, sexual relations etc.; they should not do any hideous act. If they are found guilty, involved in any of such thing, they will lose their job. (The Government can, in future, implicate priests in false accusations and retrench them from the job. In such situation, who will do justice to the priests? – Editor SP) One modified Bill has also been drafted that the priests should keep themselves away from any contagious diseases as they give holy water (teertha) and holy sacrament (Prasad) to devotees. (Such Bill is interference in the religious matters of Hindus ! – Editor SP) This is a proposal to amend the ‘Karnataka Hindu religious and charitable institutions Act 1997.

The matter regarding whether the custody of money collected through donation boxes from the place of worship to remain with the priests or with the ‘Devsthana’ is also under consideration of the Government. The donation money so collected should not be spent on the employees of the ‘Devsthana’. It has been suggested that all the money collected in donation boxes should be deposited in the account of ‘Devsthana’ and the money offered to God in the plate may be retained by the priests. (Hindus will decide about what is to be done with the money collected in their temples ! – Editor SP) This code of conduct will be applicable to 30,000 priests in the State. (Hindus should stage intense agitation, in lawful manner, against this code of conduct ! – Editor SP)
