Grabbing of land belonging to Pandharpur Temple

Pandharpur (Maharashtra): There are lands at many places in Maharashtra in the name of Sree Vitthal Mandir. It has, however, been published in a daily newspaper, ‘Lokmat’ that in many places, such lands are not in the name of the Temple. (Hindus must realize the adverse effects of takeover of temples by Government. When the management is in the hands of the Government known for its scams and corruption, what else is expected? – Editor SP)

Land at Bohali in Pandharpur Taluka measuring 100 acres as recorded in the report of Nadkarni Commission, is still not available. There is more than 1200 acres of land in the State which is supposed to be in the name of Sree Vitthal-Rukmini Mandir, but is not in the possession of the Mandir Committee. It has been further mentioned in the news that cash and gold given in the name of the Deity is also grabbed.

It is also mentioned in the news that the quantity of gold other than the traditional ornaments of Sree Vitthal-Rukmini, donated by the devotees in the past few years would be more than 10 kilograms; but the Temple Committee has not made any efforts towards keeping the gold in bank or making new ornaments from them for the Deities or to earn interest etc. (The assets of temples should be used for ‘Dharmaprasar’ and ‘Dharmakarya’ ! – Editor SP); whereas an impression is created that Sree Vitthal-Rikmini Devsthan doen have sufficient funds.

Money and ornaments not secure

Such additional gold has been kept in the treasure chest where the traditional ornaments are kept. The cost of these ornaments can go beyond thousands of billions of rupees but there is no proper security. In the past few days, a plan to give a plating of gold to the ‘Garud-khamb (pillar with eagle)’, decoration of the sanctum of the Deities was declared; but there is opposition to this plan from within the Committee. The above points are, therefore, of significance in this background.
