Mangalore (Karnataka): Secular Government interferes in the spiritual programs organized by Hindus; but does not interfere in programs held by followers of other religions. The Government has appointed such persons as trustees of temples who have no faith in God and they are managing the temples which is very condemnable. The above views were expressed by Mr. Mohan Gowda of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS). HJS had taken out a rally to protest against the Karnataka Government’s Act to take over management of Hindu temples. Trustees of various temples from all over the State had participated in the rally taken to the District Collector’s office.

The money collected in temples is not utilized for the welfare of Hindus but is spent on programs of non – Hindus. The Government gets Rs. 100 crores from the temples; but it does not get anything from followers of other religions. The Government pays no attention to repairs and development of temples. In such situation, if the management of temples also goes to the Government, the temples will be completely destroyed. HJS has, therefore, started the campaign against the Government’s decision to take over management of temples, said Mr. Gowda.
