Ponda (Goa): Sanatan Sanstha had submitted an application on 6th  July 2010 at the local municipal office seeking permission for display of boards advertising about the function to celebrate ‘Guru-Pournima (GP)’ in Ponda city. The Chief municipal officer Jayant Tari and Mayor, Pradip Naik gave evasive answers to the Sanatan seekers who were regularly going to them till 23rd July for the permission and finally, they avoided granting permission. As a result, seekers could not put up the boards in Ponda city announcing about GP celebrations.

After submitting the application on 6th July, seekers went to municipal office on 14th July for follow up when they were told that the application was received and forwarded for necessary action. From 16th to 19th July, the Chief Officer Tari did not go to office and no decision was taken on the application. On 20th July, he informed that the application was sent to the Mayor for approval. The Mayor did not sign the application on 21st and 22nd July and when contacted, he left the office at 3.00 p.m. without taking any decision in the matter.

On 23rd  July when seekers contacted Mayor Naik, he informed that the application was not on his table and he had no idea where it was. The seekers still asked him whether they could display the boards; he said not to do so without permission. The seekers then met Tari and told him that it should be given in writing if permission was not being granted. Tari preferred to leave without giving any answer to the seekers. (The administration has avoided giving permission for display of boards about Guru-Pournima function without any rhyme or reason. This is a misuse of power. If the citizens take law in their hands, the administration is to be blamed. Such administrative officers would be punished in the divine kingdom with intense ‘sadhana’. This is an example of how the Congress Government is purposely targeting those engaged in the activities for welfare of the Nation and protection of Dharma ! – Editor SP)

There is a saying that ‘one cannot stop the Sun from rising even if one tries to keep a cock under wrap.’ The devout Hindus, who have affection for Sanatan, did attend the Guru-Pournima celebrated at Ramnathi, Ponda. The GP function was celebrated with great enthusiasm and in the atmosphere of devotion.
