Denigration of Mahabharat in Short Film – Mama’s Boys

Lack of unity amongst Hindus is the reason for anyone and everyone having the guts to make such anti-Hindu mockery !

We at Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) have received several complaints from devout Hindus regarding a demeaning and offensive A-rated short film called “ Mama’s Boys” launched on September, 6 2016 by Royal Stag Barrel Select Large Short Films on website http://www.largeshortfilms.com/ and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5V9_OJW7iRQ on YouTube.

Upon reviewing the film and grievances, HJS team immediately notified and appealed to the maker and producer of the film requesting to remove it from YouTube. In the appeal, HJS explained how the humiliating and appalling depiction of revered Mahabharat characters Pandavas, Drauapadi and Kunti and also an absolute mockery of the Holy epic, Mahabharat. In addition, HJS observed that the film comprises not only vulgar and cheap dialogues and scenes but also purportedly insulting and tarnishing the noble images of revered Mahabharat characters and Hinduism. Will the writer-director have the audacity to create sarcastic films about other religions under the guise of ingenuity?

After sending protest letter the YouTube channel named DKB replied to us and have removed the video from their channel. But Royal Stag and Exceed Entertainment, the producer of the film have not responded to our appeal letter.

Consequently, HJS now requests all readers to appeal against this atrocious film peacefully and lawfully by either writing an email or calling the numbers below requesting to remove the film from their website including YouTube and not make such mediocre film in the future.

Namaskar,
We at Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) have received several complaints from devout Hindus regarding the denigrating and insulting A-rated short film called “ Mama’s Boys” launched on September, 6 2016 by Royal Stag Barrel Select Large Short Films on website http://www.largeshortfilms.com/ and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsUblis0ZeA on YouTube.

We are sending this appeal letter to notify you regarding the humiliating and appalling representation of revered Mahabharat characters Pandavas, Drauapadi and Kunti and an absolute mockery of the Holy epic, Mahabharat and Hinduism.

Akshat Verma, the writer of this short film has tried to create a modern interpretation of the epic Mahabharat in a satirical way to gain cheap and easy publicity.

Sadly, throughout the film, all the characters are shown misbehaving and characterless. The original story of Mahabharat has not only been twisted but also tries to impose more liberal values thereby ridiculing the Hindu traditions and scripture. We would also like to understand from the writer-director of the film what mindset has been applied when creating this film?

To illustrate, many scenes have double meaning dialogues, indecent costumes and obscene expressions. In one of the scenes, while Bhīma is exercising in the fitness center he uses lewd language while conversing with Arjun. Showing Draupadi in a swimming pool or exercising in the gym is nothing short of vulgarity. In another scene Yudhishthira is shown drinking alcohol and smoking while playing cards in the nightclub. This leads to not only character assassination but also results in slander !

Most of the characters of the film are drinking alcohol, smoking and consuming non-vegetarian (Tamasik) food. This leads to insulting and tarnishing the noble images of revered Mahabharat characters and Hinduism. There was also a conversation between Draupadi and her friend mockingly questioning the masculinity of Nakul and Sahadev which not only create a wrong impression in the minds of the viewers but also shows malicious intention of the writer-producer to deliberately malign Hinduism and the holy epic.
Is this an honorable way to present Hindu epics and traditions by disparaging and smearing them? Will the writer-director have the courage to create satirical films about other religions under the guise of creativity?
You may have made this film unknowingly; however, hurting religious feelings leads to an offence as per the Indian Penal Code – section 295A.

We urge you to consider the above points and remove the short film, “Mama’s Boys” immediately from your website and YouTube to prevent further denigration of the highly revered Mahabharat characters and the Mahabharat.

We stress that our aim in bringing up these points is to educate and ensure that Hindu Deities and Hinduism gets accurately represented to society. Hinduism has been misrepresented at many levels. Though it is an ancient tradition, Hinduism has a lot to offer to the modern world, and we want children and adults alike to be able to understand and study it without it being misrepresented. You can take one step towards ensuring that Holy epic book, Mahabharat and Hinduism are not misunderstood, by removing this denigrating film from your website and YouTube.

Sincerely,
Sagar Chopdar,
Hindu Janajagruti Samiti.
