Dombivali (Maharashtra): In the History text book devised by the Central Government’s NCERT for 7th standard titled ‘Hamare Atit – 2’, the history pertaining to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has been given only in 6 lines whereas history of Mughal and other cruel invaders take up most of the pages of the book. Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) staged demonstrations at 6.30 p.m. in Indira Gandhi Chowk against this anti-Shivaji policy of the Government. Mr. Pramod Joshi, the national spokesperson of Hindu Mahasabha garlanded picture of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on the occasion. The patrons of Shivaji Maharaj demanded that the major historical facts pertaining to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj should be included in the text book or the book should be withdrawn. More than 150 Shiva-devotees took part in the demonstrations.

The dignitaries who participated in the campaign were Mr. Ravindra Chavan, BJP MLA, Mr. Sadanand Tharaval, the city-chief of Shiv Sena, Mrs. Smita Babar, the chief of Shiv Sena’s women front, Mr. Dinesh Achalkar, branch-chief of Shiv Sena, Mr. Vedpande, the chief of MNS for Dombivali (West) and his party members, Mr. Shivaji Vatkar, the district coordinator of HJS for Mumbai, Thane and Raigad districts and Mr. Ajay Sambhus of HJS from Thane. A representation will be given to the Chief Minister in this context which has been signed by 1000 Shiva-devotees.

Mr. Vatkar said, “Instead of giving the history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj who was a valiant king, the Government is giving importance to the tyrannical history of the Mughal rulers. What is the Government trying to pass on to the future generations? It is time that everyone thinks about it seriously.” Mr. Sambhus said. “The Government is trying to crush the true history and teaching history of oppressive Muslims who denigrated objects worshipped by Hindus. This is a big mockery of history. If Hindus remain indifferent, the future generations would never learn the true history and this Government might portray Mohammad Afzal and Ajmal Kasab as revolutionaries in future.

There were placards carried by Shiva – devotees which said ‘Oppose NCERT’s anti- Dharma curriculum’, ‘Compel the Government to cancel the curriculum’,  ‘Condemn the Government for praising Mughal invasions’, ‘Stop ‘Islamaization’ of history’ etc. and slogans were raised against the Government.

Reactions

1. Mr. Sadanand Tharaval, city-chief, Shiv Sena : The Central and State Governments have always been partial in favouring Muslims and such attitude is escalating day by day. Incidents like ban on display of picture depicting slaying of Afzal Khan, glorification of Mughal kings rather than Shivaji Maharaj show the Government’s intention is to degrade Maharaj. Congress Government is doing this only for vote politics; but it is unfortunate for us that Hindus are indifferent to all these things.

2. Mr. Ravindra Chavan, BJP, MLA : The Government has always been throttling Hindu Dharma and Hindus. Now in addition, it is glorifying Muslims rulers through the medium of text books. Hindus must, therefore, unite.
