A group of Muslims from the city here have demanded that the authorities keep a track on the activities of the Popular Front of India, raising apprehensions that the activities of the group will disturb the peace and communal amity amongst Goans.

A day after the Popular Front of India President Iftiyaz Shaikh lodged a police complaint against Altaf Sayed and Jafar Shaikh for preventing them from conducting their meeting at Gogol Housing Board, a meeting of Muslims today appealed to Goans in general to keep away the Popular Front of India to protect communal peace and amity.

A citizen Mehboob even alleged that members of the Front have been engaged in a Love Jihad in Kerala, where Muslim men are trained to seduce Hindu and Christian college girls to marry them and to convert them into Islam.
To substantiate his statement, he produced literature on the activities of the Front and asked the authorities to conduct a detailed probe into reports that martial art training is being imparted to Muslim youth in Ponda and Margao every week by the organisation. “Why is the Front training our youth in martial arts, to fight against whom”, he asked, adding “We Muslims don’t want any Jehad, but want to live in peace with all religious communities”.

Syed Karim sought to know when exactly the Popular Front of India came into existence and their activities in Goa.
“We did not allow them to hold a meeting as we want to run the affairs of our Masjid peacefully”, he said, adding that the police should crack a whip against the Front members.

Altaf Sayed alleged that people like Shaikh Jina and Babloo Shaikh are associated with the Popular Front of India, and added that the Front has lodged a false complaint against him because he had opposed the activities of the Front in the Housing Board. The meeting which was held at the office of Adv Anacleto Viegas was attended by around 100 people.

In his address, Adv Viegas said that Shaikh Jina has opened the Popular Front because he is more interested in self than the Muslim community. “We stand by human rights”, Viegas said, and vowed to oppose Jina if attempts are made to divide the people on religious grounds.

Making an appeal to keep away the Popular Front of India to maintain secularism, Viegas called upon the people to come under one banner and unitedly fight the forces out to destroy the secular fabric of the State. “No religion tells you to marry girls of other religions with the aim to check the population growth”, Viegas said.

Meanwhile, Maina Curtorim police has arrested three persons Dodapir Shaikh, Jabir Khan and Sameer Baig in connection with the assault on the driver of Shaikh Jina.

Jina along with the president of Popular Front of India had taken out a morcha to the Maina Curtorim police station on Tuesday, wherein he had charged Chief Minister and PWD Minister (not the Power Minister as was inadvertently mentioned) for giving political patronage to the elements indulged in goondagiri in the housing board.
