Worried over prolonged dry spell in the district, the Endowments department officials have decided to offer special prayers to propitiate rain gods. Varuna Japam, Varuna Sukta Parayana and Rudra Homam will be conducted as part of the rituals being organised by the Endowments department in Uma Rudra Koteswara Swamy, Ramalingeswara, Bheemeswara and Sri Laksheswara Swamy temples in Srikakulam and Sri Mukhalingeswara Swamy temple in Jalumuru, Sangameswara temple at Sangam.

Mani Nageswara temple at Kallepalli, Sri Endala Mallikarjuna Swamy temple at Ravivalasa, Malleswara temple at Kotabommali and Neelakanteswara Swamy temple at Pathapatnam, Janardhana and Koti Lingeswara Swamy temples at Baruva for four days i.e., August 26 to 29.

Due to lack of adequate rains, paddy crop is on the brink of withering in 11 mandals in the district. The water levels in Nagavali and Vamsadhara rivers have touched bottom level. Speaking to The Hans India here on Tuesday, Endowments Assistant Commissioner V Shyamala Devi said, “We will offer special prayers to the Almighty for rains and to end the scourge of drought in the district.

I sincerely hope that within the next few days, we will see a very dramatic end to the dry spell and there would be constant rains putting an end to the crisis afflicting the mankind,” she added. Similar prayers were organised in the past seeking divine benediction and help to tide over the water crisis, and the god blessed the district with bountiful rains, she recalled.
