Eid celebrations across multiple cities marked by unrest and violence by fanatics

Bengaluru – The office of the ‘Rashtra Rakshana Pade’ (National Defence Army), led by devout Hindu leader Shri. Puneeth Kerehalli, is located on N.R. Road in Basavanagudi. Puneeth Kerehalli along with several activists was present inside the office. During this time, a group of fanatics participating in an Eid procession arrived outside his office and began chanting provocative slogans such as ‘Sar Tan Se Juda Puneeth Kerehalli’ (behead Puneeth Kerehalli).

Upon hearing this, Puneeth Kerehalli, activist Murli, and others stepped out of the office and responded with slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ to counter the alleged chants of ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ and ‘Allahu Akbar’ raised by the crowd. An altercation ensued between both sides. Activists of the organisation alleged that during the clash, a fanatic struck Murli on the head with an iron rod, leaving him injured.

Based on complaints from both sides, Basavanagudi police registered three cases and detained eight individuals for questioning. Action was also initiated against supporters of Puneeth Kerehalli based on a complaint lodged by Muslim leader Abdul Razak.

Police have registered cases against Puneeth Kerehalli, Gopi Gowda, Puneeth Gowda, Vinod Nataraj, and others on charges of disrupting communal harmony and promoting enmity between groups. Meanwhile, three individuals, Kamal Pasha, Abubakar Siddique, and Syed Anas, have been arrested on charges of attempted murder and under provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Three minors have also been detained in connection with the incident.

In protest against the assault, Puneeth Kerehalli and his supporters staged a sit-in demonstration in the middle of the road. Police reached the spot, used mild force (lathi-charge) to disperse the crowd, and took several people, including Puneeth, into preventive custody.

The activists also alleged that when Shri. Puneeth Kerehalli was being transported in a police vehicle, an unruly mob chased the vehicle and attempted to launch an attack.

Chikkamagaluru: 40-ft Tipu Sultan cutout video sparks row; Muslim youths brandish swords in public on Eid

A 40-foot cutout of Tipu Sultan was installed in Tipu Nagar, Chikkamagaluru, ahead of Eid Milad celebrations. A video of the illuminated cutout, accompanied by fireworks, circulated widely on social media.

The video featured a background song containing references to “Pakistan” and “Mujahid/Mujahideen.” Police registered a suo motu case under sections related to promoting enmity and disturbing communal harmony. A 23-year-old local youth was arrested for circulating the edited video on Instagram and other platforms. Several others were questioned.

Also, during the Eid-e-Milad celebrations in Chikkamagaluru, Muslim youths were seen openly dancing on public roads brandishing swords. A video capturing this brazen display went viral across social media platforms.

The provocative act took place during a celebratory procession on the main street, despite the presence of police security in the city. Local citizens registered strong outrage against the open display of lethal weapons and questioned the police administration’s failure to prevent such armed misconduct during public gatherings.

Lalbaug-Parel: Hooliganism during Eid procession in Lalbaug-Parel

High-decibel provocations, reckless motorbike stunts, and slogans of ‘Allahu Akbar’ by Muslim youths on the Parel–Lalbaug route caused severe disruption late into the night during Eid processions. When miscreants hurled stones and bottles at local residents gathered at Laxmi Cottage, enraged local Hindus retaliated firmly, beat back the aggressive youths, and chased them out of the locality before heavy police forces were deployed to bring the area under control.

Bhandup: Portraits of despotic ruler Tipu Sultan displayed on Eid

On the occasion of Eid, green flags were put up along public streets in Jamil Nagar, Bhandup. Along with these flags, portraits of the tyrannical ruler Tipu Sultan, responsible for the mass slaughter of thousands of Hindus and forcible religious conversions at the point of the sword, were also displayed at multiple spots across the Jamil Nagar locality.

On 26 August, during an Eid-e-Milad procession taken out in Andheri (West), police completely covered a roadside Hanuman temple with cloth. The area falls under the jurisdiction of the Amboli Police Station. The cloth covering the temple was removed only after the procession concluded.

During this procession, slogans such as ‘Masjid Wahin Banayenge’ (We will build the mosque there) were raised, and posters depicting a mosque superimposed over the centre of the map of India were displayed. Palestinian flags were also waved during the march. Widespread anger has surfaced among Hindus over the passive stance adopted by the police and the brazen defiance of the unruly mob. The procession was led under the leadership of Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Harun Khan.
