Failure of ANS’s ‘Donation of Ganesh Idol’ drive

Jalgaon: In Jalgaon, big Lord Ganesh idols are immersed in Mehrun Lake and Girna River. Due to the presence of staunch Hindus at immersion sites, the Idol Donation drive of ANS was a total flop. At Mehrun Lake in Jalgaon, five members of ANS started taking Ganesh idols as donation. One of the members collected about 25 idols by force from the Ganesh mandals and handed them over to ANS.

Shri. Santosh Patil, a leader of BJP reached the site after some time and appealed to people for immersion of idols. The member of ANS made a provocative statement that as the idols were made of stone, there was no harm in donating the same. The Hindus present there did not like what the ANS member said resulting in triggering of a row. Later members of BJP, Hindu Maha Sabha and other staunch Hindus immersed all Ganesh idols collected by ANS in water.

The Police Inspector in duty also told members of ANS not to force anyone to donate idols. ANS members ran away from the scene with 5 idols. At the Girna riverbanks, municipal staff, members of social organizations were collecting the dried up leaves and flowers. Members of Shree Sampradaya and Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, however, explained to them the science behind immersion of idols as also dried flowers and leaves etc. offered to Lord Ganesh. Later the immersion was done peacefully.
