Pune : Shri. Sunil Ghanavat while addressing a press conference said that
since immersion of Sri Ganesh idols is being done in the water tanks built by Pune Municipal Corporation. The Corporation is responsible for the resultant denigration of idols. While going to the water tanks for immersion, many idols are trampled on the way. Without having any proof of water pollution caused due to immersion of idols, some organizations are unnecessarily making a hue and cry. In fact, Shri. Ghanavat gave many proofs that showed that there was no water pollution due to immersion of idols.

He drew attention to the fact that it was not right to waste money on building tanks when there was an urgent need to undertake repairs of the roads. Many representatives of Hindu organizations were present for the press conference. In this connection, a delegation of members of these organizations called on the additional Police Commissioner (ACP) when he informed the delegation that no additional tanks would be built this year. He further said that the tanks were built for the convenience of the people and their usage is voluntary. Nobody will be forced to immerse idols in the tanks. The ACP also assured that necessary care will be taken to maintain the sanctity of the festival and there would not be denigration of idols. The delegation also demanded prohibition on circulation of pamphlets advocating donation of idols.
