Chennai: Swatantryaveer Savarkar in the history of freedom fight of this country has gone through so much of hardships that no other leader must have experienced, Uma Ravichandran, coordinator, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) said.

Hindu Janajagruti Samiti launched a protest in front of Memorial Hall here yesterday and later submitted a memorandum to Governor of Tamilnadu Surjith Singh Barnala to speed up the process of granting permission by the Government of India for constructing a memorial of Swatantryaveer Savarkar at Marseilles in France.

While highlighting the brave deeds of Savarkar, Uma Ravichandran described about his jump into the ocean from a sailing ship and swimming his way to Marseilles port, France. On 8 July 2010, this incident will complete its 100 years, she said.

The French government has agreed to construct a memorial of Savarkar thereby giving due respect to his great revolutionary, but the Government of India is delaying the work for the past 11 years. If this memorial is not constructed the world will never know about a great historical event and about this great patriot of India, she said.

Speaking on the occasion, V Sundaram, associate editor, News Today and the propaganda secretary of Desiya Padhukappu Kazhagam praised the deeds of Savarkar and appealed to the government to take necessary steps.

The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has demanded the President of India to take immediate action in this issue and had also launched a  nation wide signature campaign.
