Surat (Gujarat): A new Hindu outfit — Vishwa Hindu Seva Samiti (VHSS) — has come forward in protest against Sadhvi Pragya’s arrest by the Mumbai Anti-Terrosim Squad (ATS) in the Malegaon blast case.

At a press conference held in Surat on Sunday, the samiti members announced that they would take out a rally to protest the arrest and mobilise public support for her.

Coming in front of the media for the first time to oppose the arrest, the newly formed VHSS organised the briefing at Jay Ambe Temple in Rander. The samiti members, largely comprising of college students and service class youths, claimed that Sadhvi was innocent and was being wrongfully grilled.

Formed a month ago, the samiti is still in the process of being registered.

VHSS president Nirav Rana said: “We will not tolerate the insult on Hindu sants and sadhvis. We will start an agitation and perform programmes in Surat in the coming days. We want to give opportunity to all Hindu teenagers, including girls, to come and work for the protection of Hindu religion. People of our community are shocked and cannot even believe that a Hindu saint can in any way be involved in terrorist activities. The Mumbai ATS has done brain-mapping, polygraphic and even narco tests on Sadhvi Pragya, but have failed to find details about the attack. Somebody has to fight for her and we have taken the initiative.”
