Ganesh Idols : From tanks to the river

Bhadrapad Krushna Pratipada

Pune (Maharashtra): Much to the chagrin of the Pune Municipal Corporation, its employees callously threw Ganesh idols into the river at Sangam Ghat near the Regional Transport Office (RTO). It may be noted that the civic body had appealed to the citizens to immerse Ganesh idols in the specially-built tanks in various parts of the city.

The PMC had built 70 to 80 tanks to avoid pollution of water bodies including rivers. (First PMC should stop sewage water and polluted water from Industries to go into river!)

Mauli Sewa Pratishthan in Sangamwadi brought to the notice of DNA on how the PMC employees threw as many as 4,500 idols in the river only a few metres away from the specially-built tank. (Hindus should force PMC to take strict action against it’s anti-Hindu employees who threw away Ganesh Idols in river!) President of Mauli Pratishthan, Samir Nikam, told DNA that the immersion tank near Sangam Ghat was just a few metres away from the river. The PMC employees took out the Ganesh idols from this tank and threw them on the bank of the river.

However, local residents Bapu Tikone, Jagannath Tikone and others collected these idols in their small boats and released them in the centre of the river. (Congtratulations to Shri. Bapu Tikone, Jagannath Tikone and others who immersed Ganesh Idols properly into river!)

Mandar Lawate, a researcher working on various religious issues including temples, idols and related issues said that if the civic body wanted to throw the idols in the river then why it constructed the tanks for immersion.

Deputy municipal commissioner Jeevan Sonawane said that he was unaware about the development and said that strict action will be taken against the guilty.
