Mangalore (Karnataka): In Balambhat Hall of Sree Radhakrushna Mandir, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) celebrated 125th birth anniversary of Swatantryaveer Sawarkar in the presence of Shri. T. N. Ramakrushna, President of ‘Rashtragaurav Saunrakshan Parishad’, Shri. Rajendra Bhat, a devout Hindu, Shri. Ganeshrao Suvarna, president of ‘Sarvajanik Ganeshitsava Samiti and Mahaganapati Seva Pratishthan (Ganeshpur Kunknadi) and Shri. Shivanand Prabhu, spokesperson of HJS for Southern India.

The program was inaugurated by Shri. T N Ramakrushna lighting a lamp. He said, “Swatantryveer Sawarkar was persecuted by British before India got its freedom and his confiscated property was not returned to him even after independence. An oil painting of Swa. Sawarkar was inaugurated in Parliament on the occasion of his 120th birth anniversary which was opposed by many MPs. It is very shameful of the Government to treat him in such disgraceful manner.”

Shri. Rajendra Bhat said, “It is very unfortunate for this country that no mention has been made about a patriot like Sawarkar in any of the History books. Sawarkar had jumped into the sea while in captivity in France and it will be 100 years in the year 2010 since that incident. When France has granted permission to display banners and celebrate the incident in their country; Indian Government is yet to respond which is very shameful and proves that the Indian Government has no respect for its freedom fighters and patriots.”

A photo-exhibition on terrorism showing atrocities against Hindus in Kashmir and Bangla Desh was also put up at the venue. The exhibition was inaugurated by Shri. Ganeshrao Suvarna. Shri. Vinod Kamat introduced the audience to activities of HJS. Mrs. Laxmi Pai of HJS sang a patriotic song written by Sawarkar. The program concluded with singing ‘Vande Mataram’. Many participants later informed that they did not know so many details about Sawarkar.
