HJS and Sanatan Sanstha prevent denigration of national flag

By Staff reporter

Mumbai: National flags made of paper and plastic are found strewn all over the roads and even in gutters after national festivals. Many times, the flags are even trampled by people walking on the streets; thus causing denigration. Such denigration is going on for a number of years. Consequently, the Central Government passed a law that national flag should not be made of plastic papers. Even the State Government issued an order in this regard; however, no action has been taken to implement this law.

As a result, even this year, plastic flags were manufactured and sold and later found thrown on the roads and in the gutters after Republic Day. Even then, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti and Sanatan Sanstha with their limited manpower and resources, managed to prevent such denigration at a number of places. At 4 places in Boisar in Thane, Sanatan and HJS provided empty boxes for collection of used flags. About 30 flags were collected and later immersed in water. Some children of HJS representatives tried to create awareness among a few shopkeepers as they had hoisted flags in a wrong manner. Emply boxes were kept even in Worli for collection of discarded flags. In a school in Malad (East), students were informed over loud speakers about the code of conduct to be observed in respect of national flag.

Ideal behaviour by students of municipal school in Kajupada, Kurla

Smt. Prajakta Sawant, a teacher in municipal school in Kajupada, Kurla, and a representative of HJS, has been explaining to the students about code of conduct to be observed in respect of national flag. This year too, she appealed to students from 6th and 7th standard to prevent denigration of the flag. Students got motivated and voluntarily formed 3 groups. They went to different areas like Indian Airlines and Shivaji Park. They created awareness among people to prevent denigration of the national flag. Where they could not have sufficient boxes for collection, they provided ‘khaki’ paper bags and collected more than a hundred national flags which were later immersed by them in water. (Congratulations to students from school in Kajupada for taking action to prevent denigration of the flag. They are the strength of future India. – Editor)
