Pollution levels up during Diwali : MSPCB

Mumbai: During the days of Diwali festival although bursting of crackers with earsplitting noise was limited; there was hike in bursting of crackers causing air pollution resulting in increase in level of pollution by 50 to 100 %. The above declaration was made by Shri. Khandare, Secretary of Maharashtra State Pollution Control Board [MSPCB]. (Air pollution caused by bursting of crackers lead to citizens suffering from ailments related to breathing. What measures the Government is going to take to have control over this? – Editor)

MSPCB had fitted machinery at 115 places to measure pollution caused during Diwali. Maximum pollution has been noted in Mumbai followed with Pimpri-Chinchwad, Karvenagar in Pune. This year, due to strict implementation of the order, there was some control over bursting of crackers with deafening noise; but still air pollution was more through crackers making less noise, observed Shri. Khandare.
