Bangalore: The ‘Protect Ram Setu’ protest took place in Bangalore in front of Town Hall from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm on 9th June, 2007. Around 150-200 Hindu Dharmabhimanis participated in it.

Shri. Shivanand Prabhu, Spokesperson of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, welcomed the gathering. One of the speakers, Dr. Chidanand Murthy, a researcher and a famous literary scholar of Karnataka, said that Ram Setu was an under water cultural heritage and should be preserved. The secular government questions the existence of Lord Rama citing that Ramayana was a mythology. Lord Rama is not mythology, but Lord Rama resides in our hearts. How will the secular government, who is unjust and against Hindus, understand and appreciate this?

Sadhu Rangarajan, founder of Sister Nivedita Academy and Bharatmata Gurukul also was one of the speakers. He has dedicated his life for the spread of Spirituality, Dharmajagruti and Dharmarakshane. He said that many scientists and marine engineers have accepted that Ram Setu is a man made bridge and not one formed out of accumulation of coral stones as is perceived by our intellectuals. Our Hindu intellectuals ask evidence for everything. But, have we ever seen any Christian or Muslim ask for proof about Crusification of Jesus Christ or existence of Mecca? It is because of this attitude of the Hindus of disbelieving their own culture that the Government is ignoring their interests. In fact, even the World Heritage Foundation is considering the Ram Setu as a heritage.

Around 10,000 demonstrations are going on all over India by different Hindu organizations. He insisted that all of these organizations unite, and all the Heads of various Hindu Mutts come together and jointly carry out the mission.

Shri. Chandreshanand Swami from Ramakrushna Vivekananda Kendra, who does a lot of work for the upliftment of youth and children in villages, said that breaking of Ram Setu is like an eclipse to Hinduism. He also said that it is a tough time for Hindu Dharma and stressed on the need for all Hindus to wake up and work jointly. He appreciated the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti activities and urged all Hindus to join hands with it. He reminded everybody of Swami Vivekananda’s teachings- “Arise, Awake and Stop not till the goal is reached”. He reminded us that Ram Setu is in existence for over 17,25,000 years and it is now our duty to make it last eternally.

Shri. Kumaranna Swamy, a Swami from BiliShivalaya, a spiritual person, warned that Hinduism is in dire danger. He emphasized the need for all Hindus to play the role of the squirrel who contributed tirelessly for towards the building of Ram Setu.

Shri. Sumatindra Nadiger, a well known writer and a scholar of Karnataka, said that Hindus are striving hard for several years to get Rama Rajya. But the government is such that it is bent on destroying the existence of Lord Rama itself. He condemned pseudo intellectuals.

Shri. Mahendra, owner of Maruti Medico, said that we would not question the government as to why it is taking precautionary measures to protect Taj Mahal or Qutub Minar. But we will definitely demand an answer from the government as to why it is not protecting the Ram Setu.

Swami GaneshGiri, Adi Shankar Mutt, Srirangapattanam, was also present on the occasion. Many Hindu organizations participated in the programme. New contacts which we developed during FACT exhibition also came along and helped us in this programme. Members of Kashmiri Association also participated. There was active participation from the press as well.

A signature campaign was also done in which more that 250 standers signed. A memorandum was also given to the PA of the Governor to be forwarded to the President.
