Fanatics waved green flags, chanted ‘Allahu Akbar’ and played deafening music in Hindu-majority areas

Motorcycle stunts, stone-pelting, and provocation till midnight force local Hindus to respond
Mumbai – On the occasion of Eid-e-Milad, processions taken out across Mumbai turned into scenes of absolute hooliganism. In Hindu-majority localities, green flags were waved, loud chants of ‘Allahu Akbar’ were raised, and high-decibel Dolby sound systems were played at deafening volumes.
On the Parel–Lalbaug route, fanatics who continued waving green flags and shouting provocative slogans even in Hindu-majority areas were thrashed and driven out of the locality by local Hindus.

From 9:30 PM on the night of 26 August, Muslim youths performed dangerous motorcycle stunts with three people riding pillion at a time on the Parel-Lalbaug route, while shouting slogans of ‘Allahu Akbar’. Their rowdy behaviour made it extremely difficult for pedestrians to walk on the roads. When police tried to stop them, the youths argued and entered into heated altercations with the officers.
The ruckus continued till midnight. Despite repeated warnings and persuasion by the police, the youths refused to listen, intensified their hooliganism, and deliberately tried to provoke the local Hindu residents.

Upon learning of the situation, a large number of Hindus from Lalbaug and Parel gathered near Laxmi Cottage and raised slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’. At this point, the Muslim crowd hurled stones and bottles at the Hindus. Enraged, the Hindus thrashed the fanatics and forced them out of the area.
Following the incident, heavy police forces have been deployed in the Lalbaug–Parel area as well as other sensitive parts of the city.
- The recent provocations in Mumbai, first the targeting of a Shri Ganesh idol in Mazgaon, followed by brazen intimidation during Eid processions in Hindu-majority areas, serve as a clear test of Hindu resolve.
- Since one cannot guarantee police action every time, Hindus must remain prepared to protect themselves just as in this recent Mumbai incident.
