Sindhudurg, Maharashtra – Holi is a festival that signifies the destruction of evil tendencies and inauspicious thoughts, thereby guiding society towards righteous conduct. The noble sentiment behind celebrating Holi lies in offering samidha (sacrificial wood) into the sacred fire, symbolising the purification of the atmosphere through this ritual. Unfortunately, in recent times, the festival has acquired a distorted form.
When festivals are celebrated in accordance with religious scriptures and with proper understanding, they yield spiritual benefits. With this in mind, an ‘Adarsh Holikotsav’ (Ideal Holi Festival) was jointly organised across the district by the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti and the Sanatan Sanstha at Sawantwadi, Kudal and Shiroda (Vengurla). In addition, Holi was celebrated with great enthusiasm in villages throughout the district. At Kudal and Sawantwadi, the event was graced by the revered presence of Sanatan Sanstha’s Dharmapracharak, Sadguru Satyavan Kadam.

Sawantwadi – The Holi puja was performed in front of Shri Dev Narayan Temple in the town. On this occasion, Ravi Bhise, a devout Hindu from Kolgaon, performed the puja, while Purohit Shripad Kashalikar conducted the priestly rites. Thereafter, the puja was performed at the hands of Sadguru Satyavan Kadam. More than 100 attendees were present, including representatives of the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, seekers of Sanatan Sanstha, and other devout Hindus.
Kudal – The Holi puja was conducted at the ground opposite the Post Office in the town. Shri. Namdev Sawant performed the puja, and Shri. Manjunath Subhash Phadke from Nerur conducted the priestly rites.
Vengurla – In Shiroda village of Vengurla taluka, the puja was performed at Vijay Kerwada Ground by the devout Hindu Shri. Bhalchandra Kubal, while Shri. Harshad Vaze conducted the priestly rites. On this occasion, more than 80 attendees were present.
